i was driving yesterday and my cel came on. i check the codes using the hold the reset and units button and it said "no code". the car seems like somethings holding it back when i accelerate, it takes a while for it to get up to speed, and it sounds louder than it did before this happened, kinda like my neon when the exhaust came loose. what could cause the cel to come on but not show a code? sorry i cant explain it to good but i havent driven it too much since this happened, if anyone can help, that would be great i want to try to get this fixed before i have to be back at work friday, unless its not serious.
thanks
james

Gonna need a little more. Take your car to a parts store (autozone, advanced auto) and have them scan the code for you.

Well I was going to a local garage to get them checked in the morning, but I was driving it around today to see what it was doing, it didn't want to shift at the right time, I drove around the block, starting off it sounded bad and got up to speed really slow in first, then after it shifted it drove better but still alittle noise. I slowed to go into my driveway and tried to pick up speed again all it did was rev before it would change gears then it would drive ok again. Could the transmission cause the cel to come on?

Yes it can. Sounds like the transaxle may be having a fit? Still, get the code scanned and go from there.

Well I snatched up another transmission on ebay for $200+$95 shipping. It has 20k miles on it and it has a warranty, so I'll get the codes then if its the transmission then I'll have one and I already have a friend to do the work for me since I've never worked on a transmission, so I really don't know where to start

Ok got the codes scanned, I forgot the exact code, but it was a bad cam shaft sensor. On their computer it said this would cause stalling rough idling, and possibly bad shifting. My cars an automatic so that explains it I think. So now I have a spare transmission to upgrade so when I start getting more power to the engine.

Still, for $200 for a tranaxle is not bad. Good to hear it wasn't all that bad. Now all you need to do is replace the sensor.

Yup, only $28 for the sensor. I'm sure I can put it in myself. Thanks for the help
