View Full Version : MTX stuck in 2nd, help needed

My transmission is stuck in second gear and the shifter is busted. It is limp front to back and will not move side to side. I took the console out and it it is stuck to the left in the 1-2 position, but moving it forward and back does absolutely nothing. It cannot be shifted into 1st or neutral. Have I broken both cables, or just one, and why would I not be able to move the shifter at all left to right? Thanks for any help.

Many people blew their shift towers, as they basically fell apart internally. The problem is if one of the bolts inside that possibly sheared, fell into the gears, you could cause other trans problems. The recommendation is to not move the car allowing the trans to turn, so keep the car in neutral (foot on clutch).
More than likely that's the problem.

check the cables, its possible the white gear selector cable broke or came off the tranny peg. thats what happened to me
