Ok... so I was washing my car a few days ago (before I knew it would rain all week!) and noticed a deep 2" long rip in my side wall :disgust: Thankfully it isn't causing a leak but I want to replace it anyway. Since my other 3 tires are at or below half tread I was thinking of all doing all 4.
In looking around, the price difference of tires between 15" and 18" isn't that much. So I might have to go off the deep end and do a full set-up as well!
WOW... just looking back at my logic: little side wall damage = opening for new wheel tire combo.
I must be
I really like Wendy's Koings (especially after seeing them inperson), problem is they haven't been made for a while.
So my current fave's (on the lower end of the price spectrum) include:
Motegi FF5's in Hyperblack
Enkei PK6's in Anthricite
Kazera KZ-T or -U can't remember. which ever is pictured.
Your thoughts and or recomendations would be great. And for reference, I have a Black stock cougie and price is the key. My preference is somthing simple, agressive, and classic. I don't go in for many of the "tuner" style wheels. But 6 spoke wheels look like sex on the coug. And I would love to find a used set of Koings like Wendy's that doesn't cost my left "manhood"
Thanks
John

From all that I've read, they are at least 20lbs figure 25-ish bing 18's. This is due to a heavier casting to resist bending.... if you belive some online forums :)

Have you ever considered Enkei CDR-9's? Those are my ultimate fave. Looks sexy on a black coug too.
Otherwise, I like Motegi ones. Those Enkeis might actually make the wheel look smaller with that big lip IMO...

Heidi I do like those CDR9's but reality just hit like a mofo, after a few unexpected expences I'm just going to have to replace with 215/60/15's and forget the 18's untill later :(
I've found some Falken ZE-512's on tires.com for like $48 a piece with shipping! and Sears mounts and ballances for $10 so not too bad.
Oh... side note to heidi: My sister is also named Heidi :)
EDIT: ok... so looking at some specs on sizing, how hard would it be to recalibrate my speedo for a larger diamater tire? because I have the 205's now and would like to go with a larger tread section of 215 those increase the overall diameter of the tire by a 1/2 inch. would that 1/2 inch make me go that much faster than what my speedo says?
Thanks
John

the 215 is the width so it wont effect your speedo. make sure the middle number is the same(60)

How much extra would the cdr-9's be? Just dont ever eat lunch out, live super cheap for a while and youll save enough to make the difference. Think of how sexy........
Oh man I need to stop thinkin about that in the middle of the day :cover:

that's partially right. That's using the old 33x12.5/15 method of it's 33 inches tall by 12.5 inches wide. I used to sell tires and was certified by sears so that I would know what all those numbers ment. There is a whole buch of math that I have since forgoten that would better explain what I'm talking about. However, with the current metric system the listed numbers are dependant on each other. That means the sidewall number is determinant on both the overal diameter of the tire and the amount of tread in contact with the road.
For example this is information taken off of Falken's websight about the ZE-512's:
Tires per OEM sizeing for our 15" rims
205/60/15
Tread Diameter is listed as 24.6 IIRC that's in inches. So the tire is 24.6 inches tall.
Tread Width is listed as 8.2 again IIRC that's in inches. and that means 8.2 inches wide.
Tires per Optoinal sizeing for 15" rims
215/60/15
Tread Diameter is lised as 25.0
Tread Width is listed as 8.6
So there is a .4 inch difference in both the width and heigth, and yet that middle number has not changed. That's because there was an even amount of expasion in the dimesions of the tire. If the tread were to get wider with out the sidewall getting taller, the "60" portion would have to become a smaller number. Reversly if the tread were to become narrower with out the sidewall getting shorter, the "60" portion would have to become a greater number. Now, .4 inches doesn't seem that big of a difference. However, your vehicle is traveling a greater distance per rotaion of the tire than before IE: that .4 inches. once you operate outside of the specified static numbers programed into your ECU for calcualting speed what is displaid on you speedometer is no longer accurate. Since your ECU is still operating with a calculated shorter distance per rotation than what is physically taking place, that means your going exponentially faster than what is being displaid as you increase your speed.
So hypothetically: if your speedo says 35mph your really traveling at 37mph, 65mph = 72mph, and 75mph = 87mph <-- these numbers I picked out of the air as expamples not to be taken as actuall calcualtions for this situation.
Pop into any Sears auto center and if there salespeople are doing their job, they should be able to full explain this.

I will say this about my information, I do have mild dyslexia so everything might be bass-ack-wards.

wow didnt know the two were dependant on each other. i always thought they were completely seperate.
