would love to see stock coug + one of these things go at it

Tiburon:
Engine type V-6 2.7L
Engine horsepower 170-hp @ 6,000 rpm
Engine torque 181 lbs.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm
Valves 24
Curb weight 3,015 lbs.

Cougar:
Engine type V-6 2.5L
Engine horsepower 170-hp @ 6250RPM
Engine torque 165 lb.-ft. @ 4250RPM
Valves 24
Curb weight 2,892 lbs.

I ate one alive that was turbocharged and I have the supercharger. Wasn't a bad match up though.

That Cougar curb weight looks low to me. Stats-wise, I'd have to go with the Tibby in your paper race. More displacement, more torque available lower down, more power available lower down, and less weight. Too close to call though. Probably comes down to gearing and driver.

I'm stock.. I've raced stock...

Its a pretty much dead even race..

well it wasnt a race.. he was pullin a "ricer fly-by" and i punched it and i wasnt gaining or losing any ground on em.

Tibby would most likely win

i test drove an 04 tibby with the 6spd the other day...thing was pretty quick...

although im comparing it to my atx coog so "fast" to me might be subjective

Some kid in a Kia Optima SE V6 tried to pull on me yesterday (I get the worst imaginable races), and it was a total joke. The Optima has the identical 2.7L as the Tiburon. I'm sure he had an automatic transmission, but really, a manual would not have helped him. It was embarrassing.

Of course, my Cougar's not very stock any more...

I think stock to stock it would be very close but the cougar would edge it out. I have an i4 mtx with intake and exhaust and I raced my friends atx tibby with intake and exhaust and we stayed even from a roll at 50 mph. From a dead stop I beat him on the launch but he catches right back up thanks to his torque and pulls to 40 or 50 and then we stay about even.

Im near stock and have both won and lost to V-6 Tibby's. Im not sure if it is the different transmissions (are there still 3 to choose from?) or mods, the drivers have not stuck around to talk.

I don't know the Tib has more torque, and if you factor in that it's a newer car and the engine won't be as worn and full of power-robbing gunk that the Cougar engines may have in them, I think the Tib may slip by.

The Tib will win hands down, its a full 1 sec faster than a Cougar in the 1/4 mi. And with just I/H/E they can see high 14 second passes. And no the cougar is heavier than the tiburon. I dont know where you got your numbers. Besides internet racing is teh gheyness.

^^^^ That almost exactly what i was going to write when I saw this post. He's right the 6-speeds can hit low 15s stock.

Oh, so that's why so many of them are losing on the street. I see. Full second. Right.

By the way a full second 1/4 mile is just an estimate. comparing a cougars low 16sec 1/4 mile to a Tibby's low 15sec 1/4 mile run. Get it now Mr. Tigger? F*cking fanboy.

that was uncalled for, chill man. learn to have a sense of humor

actually the cougar is lighter. and just to let you know tonight I rode with me friend in his v6 auto with I/H/E when he raced another friend in a stock v6 mtx cougar and the cougar beat him.

i'm sure Hytu was refering to a stock cougar and tibby with same engine, same tranny. the automatic tiburon will be considerably slower than a manual tibby. I/H/E won't be a great improvement because it still has a slushbox.

there's really not much difference weight wise, except with the auto's.

from MSN
03 Tibby V6
3015(mtx)
3041(auto)

02 Cougar V6
3013(mtx)
3200(auto)

My cougar weighed in at just under 3000lbs w/o the spare and jack in the trunk. That was a 99 V6 MTX, weighed on the track scale at Raceway Park in NJ, I had a tad over 1/4 tank of gas (maybe closer to a 1/2, don't remember).

doesn't matter if you saw humor or not you were out of line
but it was nice that you apologized
Anyway I will say this I was at the track last year and there was a Tib owner there with his MTX GT or whatever
and he claimed to be running 14.7-14.9's consistently with full exhaust including headers, CAI, and something else
he mentioned. The point is I did see him run a 15.0 and 15.2 but he never broke into the 14's that day.
I think stock vs stock the tib has a better chance but it's all about the drivers.

Ok i now own a 2003 Tiburon GTv6 5spd... i use to own a cougar.. v6 bla bla yall know lol but bottem line is when you compare these cars number wise your going to think wow this owuld be a really good race.. .but now im talking from experiacne... the Tiburon will beat a cougar stock vrs stock ....by about a car leanth...now the tiburon is by far one of the best cars out there for bolt ons we are getting bout 10-15 WHP from just a CAI ...and im nto lieing there are plenty of dynos...with I/H/E i see cars getting right bout 170-190 WHP depeands on tuning and all that ...with just I/H/E it is pretty easy to pull a mid to high 14 with a Tiburon. there are pleanty of time sheets...out on www.newtiburon.com if yall watn to check them out ..i was pretty amazed bout how these cars performed espically for being so heavy... now the gearing on these things is simply amazing!!!! the 6spd vrs the 5spd is pretty much the same the 6 is geared a li lbetter for top speed..and thats a pretty obvious statement...I have put Exhaust and i have a filter on my tibby now and i actualy feel a differnce threwout the powerband ....and when i owned the cougar i had I/E i could only raelly feel power gains at about 45 to 6 RPMS....
Now as for the AuTo Tibby's they are actually putting out more power right now than the MT (manual Transmission) rightn ow ....we got an auto that is now into the 12's wiht a supercharger.."stage 2" putting i belive just around or a lil below 300 WHP...and the stock Auto gearbox is well not that badly tuned for an automatic transmission and the shiftronic really helps when u can let it rev to the "perfect shif" point ....alouth the auto tibs are still running slower than the MT tibs stock vrs stock they do put out really impressive 1/4 mile times esipically with mods....
Now dont get me wrong i LOVED the cougar i miss it alot but comapred the the tiburon speed....well the tib beats it stock vrs stock in this catagory hands down...mainly due to great gearin and lots of available torque anywehre in the power band....
