mine are silver :) -- not sure on the 01/02's but I did my 99's by flippin them over and lightly dremeling thru the plastic welds that hold the red insert in - don't lose any of the rubber weights that are on the ends.. separate the black portions and spray paint them what color you want and then reassemble.. you'll want to use a little glue in the back to reattach the part you dremeled free...
its actually a very simple mod.. just don't lose the weights or your needles will bounce around aimlessly after.
