No doubt man. If your engine needs rebuilt, I suggest you invest in a good set of rods and pistons. You still can run a turbo ( Seawulf, Afterhours chime in. ) with stock internals, but I would suggest since it needs a rebuild anyway to go that route. You also want to ask yourself these questions as well.

1) How much money do I really want to invest?
2) How much hp do you want to gain with forced induction.
3) Is this my daily driver?

There are plenty more, but ask yourself this and then explore and ask plenty of questions.

Good Luck

EDIT: Geez, I need a nap. Price wise for a rebuild with labor you are looking at about $1000 give or take a few hundred. The cheapest route is to find a engine on ebay or a salvage site for $200 plus whatever labor for swap is.

money wise i dont really care about price ive been saving for this, i do plan on getting better pistons and rods ive been shopping around, the amount of boost im not quit sure of yet, i have another guy helping me figure stuff out cause i dont know to much about turbos and stuff like that. i didnt even think of buying an engine from a salvage yard and swapping them, probally save some money that way. are there any other cars that have the same engine as mine?

first... "too" not "to" second.... so why are you gonna be throwing something on your car you have no knowledge about? don't just throw money at a guy and tell him to slap a turbo on. learn about what you are doin, and what is being done to your car. then after you figure out what it is exactly goin on, then look into installing it.

If you just want a plain and simple swap, then the Contour would be the only other car for that.

You can use the Focus, just would have to use it's pcm as it does not have vct. I think you may have to mod the exhaust?

Escort zx2? Uses a way different transaxle, so not sure if it will mount correct to our mtx. Still it is the same engine as ours.

Search around in the Contour and Focus forums as well, I'm sure they could give you some ideas as well.

I'm spent.

Focus zetecs are not a direct drop in...they take some modding to fit in a contour or cougar engine bay but one contour person has done it. He had a thread on CEG about it actually...

the only direct swap in would be from a 98+ contour or similar model cougar.

A stock Zetec block can do 300whp with racing gas(110+ octane). On 91-93 octane it can do 200-230whp easy. It's all in the tuning.

If you want to upgrade the internals, you can use aftermarket Focus rods and pistons. The problem is finding a good shop to do the work. It will run you around $2000 for parts and labor and that's if you then install the engine yourself.

A set of rods and pistons alone will cost you around $700 at least. The low cost option is just buy another used engine for around $300-500 and keeping it as a spare incase you blow the stocker. Then you can just swap engines and back off the boost a bit and you're good to go.

Yeah, like Seawulf mentioned............the stock block can handle quite a bit as long as you keep the boost within a reasonable level. The real key is in the tuning. You need to be able to control the A/F ratios and ignition timing.
