My friend just got an older 88 300zx.. this things quite fun. I kept asking him to take me for a ride or let me drive it. These cars were quite advanced for 88.. it so reminded of knight rider. Anyway, it's basically a two seater (i'm not sure if they all are but he had no back seats, looked like all hatch...) So we went to b-dubs, and ended up taking two cars. It was quite fun.

From a stop.. my car pulled very well.. though he has a slipping clutch, so we never really raced from a stop. 70roll... it was very close, from an even roll, i would slowly pull on him.. i was quite disappointed, mainly due to the bogging that occurs in my car. So... we took it down to 40  The best pull my auto has.. we did the 3 honks and i immediately pulled 2 cars and slowly pulled farther and farther. I was happy, it was honestly quite a even race, I believe they put out 200 to the crank.. about the same weight (3000lbs). All in all, fun time. I'd rock one, very cool little cars.

Yea that little 3.0L V6 is pretty preppy. Same engine that's in my '95 Infiniti J30. . .just a gas hog though. Those little things can run nearly forever. The 300zx runs about 222hp and 198tq whereas the J30 is 210hp and 193tq. Not quite sure what difference if any is involved in the engine setup.

Good run man

Actually, i looked up specs and it says it has the vg30e... The NA 88's had 165hp and 174 ft-lbs... the turbos had 205 w/ 227 ft-lbs. Also, it's weight is very close to a cougar @ 3,080 lbs curb weight.. I think your referring to the newer zx's.. which put out 222hp w/ 198 ft-lbs.. i think, i'll ask him

Either way.. it was pretty much like racing a 5 speed cougar, just w/ a bit more torque and a few more years road experience ;)
