I want to change the lights under my shifter,
you know where the P,D,N,R,3,2,1 are,
I want them red.
anyone ever tried that?
how difficult is it?

is there a proper way to get to the bulb?
how should i remove that panel?

Scrupul0us,
I still want all that stuff done, but if the shifter light's just one bulb replacement, I can do that,
just gotta figure out how to open it.
if i replace the bulb and it's not bright enough or red enough, then I can have you look at it when i come out there

I asked the same thing before, and I'm pretty sure that you have to remove the shifter knob to get to it. I was going to remove my middle console, and paint that piece but was told I had to remove the shifter and replace the od button.

I really don't want to mess with the o/d button,
there isn't a way to get to that bulb without removing the shifter?

honestly man, messing with the o/d button isnt that big of a deal...if your worried about losing the ability to take off the o/d just wire it back up, relocating the button to the shifter plate or elsewhere shouldnt be too difficult. I havent had my o/d button for over a year now and havent had any problems at all. Also, i'm 99% sure that you won't be able to get to the bulb without removing the shifter plate... and the only way to do that would be clip the o/d wire

I used a blue LED for fine. Just wired it to the harness that had the bulb, and taped it to the socket.

okay, let me be more specific,
can the shifter plate (the plastic piece under the shifter) be lifted a few inches without having to completely remove the shifter and ruin the o/d.
I never use the o/d, i just don't see any sense in breaking something and putting a bootleg button in my car just for one silly light

yeah, i see what ur saying man. I'm not sure if there will be enough room, dont exactly remember. I tend to doubt it tho. You could try cutting the o/d wire from underneath the dash and then connecting it back together, that might work? lol. whatever u decide to do good luck man, hope it works out for u. im trying to be of SOME help, haha

How does the shifter plate come off?
are there screws hidden somewhere, or does it pop off?

It just pops up, but i'm telling you man I poped mine up and there wasn't much room to do anything. So i'm pretty sure you're gonna have to remove the shifter first.

good question,
it seems like a lot of work to have it come out not looking right

Or get MTX vinyl shift boots to replace your stock shifter plate and E-brake boot and it's even cooler in my opinion.
