Okay I'm a noob, but have read threads here and on contour sites for months. I have searched and searched for as much info as I could find. My situation is this... I have a 99 cougar 2.5 that I purchased new and have made light mods to since I've had it. I love my car and want to keep it for as long as I can. It has 102k on the engine and I would love to swap it for the 3L. I have a family friend that owns a great shop and he will do most of this for me since, even though I pretty mechanically inclined I wouldn't trust myself alone on this one since I've never swapped before. I want to go with the '99 taurus engine since it seems like I will have the least trouble doing this. I would love for anybody to complete my list and give me any additional info or advice before I do this. I'll be using the heads off of the 2.5 which from what I've read will work fine though I was confused by someone mention of port matching since I didn't see mention of that in other forums. If I do need to do this, could someone tell me if it's very time consuming, or otherwise a huge pain. To the best of my understanding the fuel return system will be the same. I'll be using the injectors from the 2.5 (hopefully that's right too) The alternator 2.5 shouldn't need modding right? The crank bushing need to be shaved to fit, 2.5 intake bolts on as well. I was confused about the water pump for this one, my understanding in this application is that I don't have to have a electric one, but could to save some ponies from being leeched. I know some one posted that the 3L they had didn't have the two oil return holes that needed plugging so I'm not sure if the 99 taurus will. The engine I get will be inspected at tear down. I've also definitely learned that the pulse wheel is always set to the 2.5 setting and I'll be using the 2.5 timing cover as well. I'll probably go with the ADC chip as well It's late here and I'm tired, but I'm staying up for the love of my cougar so I'm sorry if I forgot something I do know. Now please help with the stuff that I need to know about the 99 to 99 swap. Again I'm really sorry if this seems like a repeat thread, but alot of the info out there is for the escape engine or models later than the 99 taurus. I'm sure I'll get flamed, but please help with any info you might know about a bare bones swap for a 99 to 99 3L, as well as any upgraded parts that are pretty much an almost must for this. I'll do headers while the engines off, by the way I have the yo-dude exhaust now which I love, does anyone know if I can still fit those to headers. I think I read that puck puck has that exhaust as well. Thanks again for any help.
