Well, after my normal selection process, I finally chose a local painter to work with up here. He does a lot of work with Penske, and actually had Nascar panels in his shop when I arrived. He's able to handle any ideas I can come up with, and has extensive CF experience (which is a major plus with my planned design).

We took some time this morning to mix some colors, and spray some test cans. (Soda cans are great because of the curves.) I'll be going there tonite to pick them all up, and pick my final color mixes. The only thing I can tell ya so far, is we're sticking with the blue/silver combo, and using PPG Radiance II Tri-Coats for the whole car. Should be an interesting few months... :D

Unfortunately I didn't get by there last nite. I had a little "episode" where I got real dizzy and then fainted, all while walking thru my house. I somehow managed not to spill my Mt Dew, even tho I crushed the can as I fell, and I shattered my ashtray that was in the other hand (cut my hand all to hell), and then ended up knocking my noggin when I landed, woke up with my face in my broken ashtray about 5 mins later. Scary crap, lemme tell ya. That's what I get for skipping meals for 2 days cuz I was busy in the garage...

I'm going to run by there tomorrow morning to grab the harness bar he powdercoated and the test cans, and I'll snap some pics of his work while I'm there.

I also finally got the reference images in for the Cougar, so I can finish my concept drawings. Unfortunately they sent the same image for 99 and 2k (I'm sure you guys will be able to tell just by looking at it, too). If anyone wants to use em too, here they are:

(Don't mind the puppy directory name, its my artists nick...) :P

I grabbed one of the reference drawings - as I have a 2000 and am pretty comfortable with 3-views, etc (model airplane side business). Some things I noticed....

both images look the same
both images have the 01/02 front bumper
front & rear euro license plates
sunroof too large
the top view does not include the bumpers

other than that...they look great (better than nothing). what program are you using for these? do you have larger? am i too picky?

;) Yup, seems that the book I have shows the 1999 and 2000 Cougar with the same front (which I knew was wrong).

I get these from my auto body reference book. (I do a lot of exterior design for customers, including body matching and paint schemes.) I believe this was out of a book that I found at Sam's Club of all places...

I love having these tho. I took perspective photos of my bumpers, grey-scaled them, chopped it out, and put it on the ref image. Then I print multiple copies and do the rest by hand (until its perfect), then rescan, and print again. These copies are used for paint tests, until I'm happy, and once complete I redo the paint scheme in Photoshop, and send it off to get paint masks made. Seems like a long process, but I'm used to working with at least 8 different colors on a single Lowrider. Probably won't take as long for thge Cougar as I'm only doing a 2-color paint scheme for my car.

I'll see if I have bigger copies of the images. If not, I have a 3D model that my artist made of a Cougar that I could use to create any size image for ya, I just need to know which angles you want.
