It's a completely different engine than the 2.5L Duratec.

word of advice - just because it's Japanese, don't mean it's good.

Won't fit. The 3.0L duratec from the 2001-2004 Taurus/Escape/Sable/MPV is infinately better. Not to mention it bolts right in with modification requiring only a hacksaw and some JBweld if you stick with the 2.5L heads.

:banghead: Oh, God.

Blackcoog said it best. You're a n00b, so I'll forgive this one. Maybe it's time for a FAQ update...

that motor is rad. my friend swaped it into his probe and it was nice. much better motor than the duratec and even the svt pales in comparison.

And just for the future, the New Edge Cougar and the Ford Probe are completely different cars. They do not share parts, nor are they built on the same platform. Yes, they are both Ford-made 2 door sport compacts with 2.5L engines, but they are completely different, engine/tranny/body wise.

Roughly the same HP, less torque, slower revving, less top end, et cetera.

It is definitely a much better engine then any of the pathetic US versions but it's not all that special comparatively.

Now had you compared the VQ series of engines from Nissan then I'd be in your court raving about a damn fine engine coming out of Japan. Then again so would Ward's who named it (and the Duratec) as Top 10 best engines several times. (never the Mazda though)

What in the hell are you smoking to make you believe that the KLZE is better than a Duratec 2.5?!

wow guys, flame much? having driven all the following vehicles, stock probe, KLZE probe, stock cougar, stock coutour, svt countour there is no contest as to which was my favorite. KLZE over all. [censored] all you want but unless you have driven one your opinion isnt worth [censored].

I bought my 2004 3L for $575 with 12k on it. How is $600 less....

You can't boost the KLZE's though, they already have a high ass compression ratio correct? It's been forever since i've frequented probetalk. If you want power, the 3.0 is a much better option, unless you have a probe. Swapping over crazy motors like that's dumb, if your gonna go through all that work put in a motor worth swapping, like a cobra motor.

Thanks for the info guys, I wasnt looking at swapping the j-spec in the cougar, just wanted to know if it would work or not. I actually know a friend of mine that got a 3.0L for $375 with only 4,000 miles on it lucky SOB.

i never compared it to the 3.0 or any kind of 3.0 hybrid, 600 is way less than a full 2.5 svt, way less

as for boost, you are correct, its got high compression and cant take boost but neither can any of the engines i compared it to! the 3.0 can but i never said anything about that did i. before your gonna bite my head off maybe you should read...

Really now.

The 10.3CR SVT engine can't take 12-15psi of boost from a T28 and make over 300 at the wheels for 30k miles and ~1000 dyno runs.

Oh that's right it can and has...

You just proved our point for us. Thank you very much...
