the other day i washed the cougar and threw some megwairs(however it's spelled) tech something wax in a green bottle... it was reall good, but what is the best process, and what stuff should i use to completely clean the cougar and then wax it?

i've always just waxed my other cars, but i would like to get all the bug and tar crap off the car and polish it up properly... i know there's cleaning compound stuff and wax.... but do i clean then wax and polish or what??? and what products do you guys recomend to do this? i don't have any paint fading or anything so i don't think that colored wax would be worth anything, but i do have a few very light scratches around the door edges, but normal wax usually covers them up fine

As I just experienced the other day on my white coog, I had a ton of what looked liked small iron ore deposits in my paint and in general my car would never get clean no matter how I washed... but today I got a clay bar kit that has a bottle of detailer, bottle of wax, and a clay bar (brand name was 'Mothers', got from advance auto parts for $20) ... took about 4 hours to scrub the entire car with the clay, but the car looks brand spanking new, better then when i bought it used at the dealer... I then sealed it up with a nice coat of wax

DEFINATELY worth spending the afternoon outside

thanks for the info cause i hear about these clay bar things alot... so you just rub it all over the car and it cleans off everything?

not sure about the afternoon outside, but an afternoon in the garage with some techno blasting sounds good :P

well... at first it didnt work for me caus i was doing it wrong.. basically... split the bar into thirds as youll only need 1/3... then use the detailer to wet the area (lightly).. then just slide the clay back and forth with a little pressure, and after a few passes it'll pick the stuff up... it takes a while tho... my passenger door and the back of the front 1/4 panel took little over and hour, but they were the worst and where I first started... but once you get it down it goes alright, techno beats def help keep you pumped and keep you moving... I had LTJ bukem and Dj Markys' catalogues going the whole time

Just a few hints when using clay:

#1 - for groups of easy spots just flatten the clay out over your fingers (open palm) and just move the clay up and down
#2 - for stubborn one roll the clay into a tube, fold in half and then use one of the edges to rub
#3 - every square foot or as needed kneed to heck out of the clay

these are the three major tactics i used

well i broke out the mother's clay bar on my car the other day and holy [censored] those things work good... takes forever but it's like i got a new coat of paint. i scratched one small spot at the very beginning cause i didn't have th ebar wet enough, but it turned out really good :D

then i promtply added 1 coat polish and 3 coats of wax :P
