Hi my son bought a 2 litre cougar last week from a club member, its a 1999 T reg with 79 thou on the clock today he says that the clutch is slipping.I donnt think that the car has ever had a clutch according to the records.would this be about the correct life for a clutch in a Cougar?the car has no performance mods. done to it.When asking for prices for a clutch Iam asked for a Q&H Part No1890 £42 or Part No 2158 £74 +vat I think the dearest one comes with the relase bearing and slave cylinder?Any help and information on this subject will be most welcomed.Stuart.

Welcome- Clutch life depends ENTIRELY on how the car was driven. I've seen clutches dead in under 30k miles, whereas some last for almost 200k (mostly highway miles where you're not working the clutch).

spmotorsports.com sells 2.0L clutch systems, as does a few other places on-line, including some auto parts stores. Not sure if those stores here will ship over the pond, but you can take a look (http://www.spmotorsports.com/ATCcontour_driveline_clutch_kits_spc.html)...

yes the subframe has to be dropped. make sure you mark where the stering shaft is joined. you will then need to take the car to get an allinement done. make sure you use new gaskets

What?! The entire powertrain can come out the top. And this is a V6, bigger and more difficult than the I4:

Rip it out the top as a unit (takes me 4-6 hours from running car to engine on the ground), break open the transaxle, replace the clutch, put the whole thing back in. Easier (MUCH EASIER!) than trying to replace the clutch by mearly dropping the transaxle. You'd be at it all day & night.

15psi nos?
