Hi guys! I'll be visiting San Diego in June for about six days. Yeah, I know, not nearly enough time and one of those days is taken up by my husband running a marathon. Anybody have any suggestions for what to do while out there? I'd like to avoid as much of the tourist trap stuff as possible. Some outdoor stuff would be cool, restaurant suggestions, sights to see, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Well, most things here in SD are pretty touristy.
There is always the beach. Or nude beach if you prefer
There are plenty of local breweries for restraunts as well as downtown you can never go wrong.
Touristy things are stuff like SD Zoo, and Sea World. Wild animal park also.
We can always set up a meet for while you're here.
Mexico is always an interesting experience if you haven't been.
And there is always plenty of night life.
Otherwise give me ideas of stuff you like and I can probably come up with other ideas, but you're not giving me much
to work with at the moment.

Is there anything you would consider a 'must see' while in San Diego? Mexico would be cool, but I thought taking cars into Mexico was kind of sketchy?? I just remember when I went on a bus the bus driver absolutely would not drive into Mexico.
Events already planned:
Padres game
Harbor tour to see the whales
Legoland (I know, I know, my brother wants to go)
My husband and I like to try restaurants that aren't chain restaurants. Like is there a burger joint or a taco joint that's kind of off the beaten path that everyone likes? Where's a good beach to try (not nude...not sure I like having my naughty bits hang out for everyone to see)? Any natural wonders? When we went to South Dakota, obviously something to check out was Rushmore and gold mining. That's sort of touristy, but once in a lifetime stuff too.
Hope that helps!
And a social meet would definitely be cool, if possible.

one of are websites is .... www.signonsandiego.com that will lead you somewhere. when you are on that site check out the webcams you can view all of downtown.
for really good pizza try...Bronx Pizza in north park/hillcrest
for good mexican food try... aliandros (sp) i just call it albertos cuz i have been going there for many many many many years and thats was it was called...its in mira mesa on mira mesa blv...across from soup plantation. but really you can get good mexican food any toco shop in san diego..there all kinda the same..just little things are diff then others.
the chicken pie shop is good...its in north park...only went there once tho...but everyone raves about it
if i was you i would not drive in mexico i just did a few weekends ago and its a chore! just take the trolly all the way to the boarder and walk over much better and stress free. BRING YOUR ID (if you look mexican bring your birth cirt)
go to La Jolla shores very nice place to walk around....
we have a nice mall right in the middle of downtown called hortin plaza...if you go there while you are parked at the mall walk around downtown go to the ballpark...there alot to see down there

Pacific or Mission Beach. I was there all day today. little shops some food. the beach.
If you know anyone who water skis here it is allowed in Mission Bay, I've done that once or twice.
Downtown in the Gaslamp is a happening place with nice resturaunts and bars. Since I am only 19 I can't do much around there (TS for me) I work in La Jolla and up the street from me is Donovans. The worlds greatest steak and chop house (and the most expensive)
Rwydwy stated TJ. You really do not need to go to TJ if you can go places north of the boarder IMO. I try to go down every so often but I dont really know anyone who does anymore (even in college).

ya if you water ski in misshion bay make sure not to taste the water cuz ...you will puke. i wake boarded last summer there and hated to fall cuz i would get water in my mouth and i would gag.
i have been to Donovans and it is the best steak i have ever had. but its so freaking much..you pay like 60 for the stake if you want a patatoe then thats a extra 20
