View Full Version : Picking Up My New Car on Saturday

Well, after much consideration, I will be the proud owner of a Nissan Altima 2.5S on Saturday.

I do still think of them as 'old man cars' but I will have to get over it. I'll be making it 'my own' in some ways so it won't look too grandpa-ish. LOL!

I was able to qualify for their 1% financing as well as take advantage of the Nissan Family/Friends discount thanks to a friend in TN. I couldn't pass it up.

I had to search all over the place for a 5 speed in the color combo. I wanted...but I found one in North Olmstead. Smoke (dark grey) Metallic with a lighter grey interior.

We decided to have our mechanic drop a new motor in the Cougar in the next month, then she'll go to the body shop to get the rear-end damage fixed...then she will be put up for sale. I loved that car...until she turned EVIL on me :(

I hope you don't mind if I still lurk at Ohio NECO :)

Ooooh how exciting! I personally don't think it's an "old man car". My dad has a '96 Altima for a beater and that thing has better acceleration than the Cougar. Plus it still runs amazing. Congrats and post some pics.

Nice! I like those rims. Too bad that emblem on the back doesn't say "3.5"

Did you get a MTX? How does that 2.5 4 do in that car?

Yah, I know...but we couldn't afford that model

Yes, I got an MTX...wouldn't have it any other way

The 2.5 4-banger has 175 horsepower and I can def. tell the difference compared to the Cougar. The car has surprising 'get up and go' for being a family sedan.

The car has a feature I have never heard of before. It has a 'smart' airbag for the passenger. The seat has a built in sensor that detects weight . If I absolutely have to have a child or someone who weighs under 80lbs in the front passenger seat, the air bag automatically shuts off. If the next person who rides along is over 80lbs, the air bag will be ON. Kinda cool :)

ov3n in WI-NECO has a 2.5L in his garage with about 20,000 miles on it. Its leftover from his 3.0L swap.
Perhaps you could work out some kind of deal. Not 100% sure if he would be willing to let it go, but could probably save some coin over what a mechanic might charge for an engine.

Yeah, the SRS airbag is not really new; GM has been using those since the 90's.

I still say the Cougar would have it's way with the 2.5 Altima, though. But you can't beat having a new car. Love the color...

I think a race between those two would be close.
Altima 175hp 3104lbs
Cougar 170hp 2999lbs

Nice to see you got a new ride. When we get the Acura TL we can race family cars:rofl:

Hmmmmm...maybe I'll have some yellow flames added....yellow DOES give more horsepower, doesn't it?? :cover:

Or maybe I'll put some 'Type R' badges or stickers all over it....then you'll know its ME!

My husband will be soooooooo jealous! He loves the TL's
