Kinda surprised me.
I was merging onto the freeway this morning and came alongside a 96-98 Mustang GT. He saw me coming up fast and hammered it just as I got alongside him, and I just kept on the throttle. We ran 'em wide open, side-by-side for about 8 seconds, and he couldn't get any ground on me. I wasn't pulling at all either, but he was right in my blind spot the whole time and stayed right there, dead even.
Cougar does okay on the freeway.

Or he was playing with you! NO, The 96-98 Mustang GT wasn't really that fast, 215hp when it was new. Who knows what condition that particular one was in. I could beat them when I had my lightly modified Beretta GTZ!

We ran it to about 105, then backed off. It was fun; that's a rare occurrence for me.

not to put the cougar down but the GT was probally stock either that or like they said he was playing around with you because if he had anything done to it he could of pulled you alot more but i have a cougar like some of you know and plan on doing alot of stuff to it hopefully to match my buddy's 2000 GT so i'm not trying to put cougars down but I do have alot of respect for mustangs.

96-98 mustang gts only had something like 215hp...if it was an auto then i can totally believe it
99+ gts have 260hp...a little tougher. im actually thinking of getting a v8 atx for summer...with a little modding theyre hawt
if you ever find a 94-98 mustang v6 make that damn thing your biatch...a lot of kids now are buying these damn things running around like they're hot $hit cause they drive a "mustang"... i laugh each time at their "musclecar" 150hp

Cold air intake, SVT throttle body, SVT manifolds, gutted precats, modified stock exhaust. Other stuff too, but that's the stuff that matters...

Good job. I believe it. The pre 99 Modular GT's were weak. Run typically 15s in the 1/4 :( In 99+ they corrected the issues. I had a 00 GT at one point, Auto. Was a pretty good little ride.
I'm getting myself back into the market again. I had a Mustang GT. . .then later a Trans Am (man I miss that ride) But now thinking something different. Starting to look at the 99 - 02 SVT Cobra's. They are dirt cheap and are around 320hp. I would go for the 03's but still out of my price range. For the money, I could buy a NA cobra and through a roots S/C and achieve that 400hp margin easily cheaper.

I raced an automatic 96-98 GT once in the Cougar. The GT had some exhaust work done, but a ridiculous body kit as well, so it was probably slower than stock. From 70-85 we were dead even and from 90 and up he started pulling somewhat... maybe 1.5 cars by 110-115 where I shut it down because I was obviously beat (deserted road, 2AM - coming back from Home Depot when it used to stay open that late).
I ran into the same car right after I got my 03 GT and absolutely wiped the pavement with it. I've raced other 96-98's that put up much more of a fight, so I'd say that most of the 96-98 GT's - all of which I see modded to some degree around here - wouldn't have even given my Cougar a chance like this one turd did.

Frank... looking at your sig, Why did you sell one 2003 mustang just to buy another??

It was in an accident or 2, and I just moved so it was nice not having a car payment until I got my finances in order. I started looking at mainly 99-01 Cobras and 98-00 F-bodies until I came across a deal on this 03 GT... all options, 10K miles, mint, and 15.5K, so I jumped on it. I'm shooting for around 310-320RWHP with some stage II cams, which with 4.30 gears and drag radials should be enough for a low 12.

Sweeeet Frank...
We should run one time maybe...I'm looking for like 300 awhp, so it'd be fun.
Drop me an IM sometime or a call even, since I haven't spoken to you in a while. How are things in general?
Sorry to hijack the post, talk to you soon.
