View Full Version : Trying to quit

Well, last week I decided that I need to loose some weight and start getting back in shape. Over the past 2 years I've kinda let myself go and not really cared. So...it's time for a change. I'm cutting back as much as I can on a bunch of things, and so far so good.

The hardest thing to quit is going to be smoking. I smoke about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack a day (12-18 smokes). In addition to that I drink nearly 1-2L of cooke a day....yeah, I work 3pm-1am...what can you do :) ...and then there's fast food, I usually buy fast food 3-4 times a week.

so far today I have had the following....

1 and a 1/2 smokes - around this time on a typical day I'm at 7-8
1/2 a can of coke - usually I'm at 3/4 done a 591ml BOTTLE
no fast food.

I also started walking last week and visited my Dr. to let her know what I'm doing in case anything in my system starts to go out of wack.

I'm thinking of taking weekly pics and making like a diary of my weight losses. I came to this decision after seeing my weight last week....not only was I floored, but the guy at the "guess your weight" booth was off by 40 lbs. I won a prize lol.

Any of you guys doing anything like this?

i try quitting smoking every few months...sometimes i do pretty good, and then fall off the wagon again
its pretty damn hard to do...i've been thinking lately about trying something other than just will power, like the patch or something...

well...I have decided tomorrow that I am going to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste with me...I get the urge to want a smoke and start salivating or something, I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs :)

went pretty well....16 hours awake, only 2 1/2 smokes for the day, no fast food, and still half a can of pop....after work I'm going for a walk :)

Hey now that your single, you have to look good for the Ladies right!;)

I'm not exactly huge but, ever since my car accident 3 years ago I haven't gone back to the gym or played any sports. I work in an office all day sitting in a chair then go eat fast food for lunch almost every day. Plus being 3 years older doesn't help. I keep saying I'm going to get back in shape, and not a round shape either, but healthy shape. This spring, hell why not today.

Thanks, Hamill for the inspiration!

Its funny that this came up because I just joined a gym this week and i've been going twice a day, everyday. 45 minute cardio in the morning and weight training at night. ;)

I'm in the same position as Dan. I weighed myself the other day and I couldn't believe what it said, so I decided to do something about it. I don't smoke, so thats not a problem, but I do eat fast food about 3 times a week.

I'm not doing this because I feel like I have to, I just want to feel better about myself. :)

I used to drink 6 cans of coke a day at school until my stomach started giving out. The stuff is like acid, the only thing worse is diet coke.

Beleive it or not last summer I was over 185, but thanks to some medication changes I am back down to my regular skinny 165.

This guy was my inspiration, and I highly suggest you follow some of what he does. http://www.johnstonefitness.com/php/pictures.php

I was pushing the 203 mark at my heaviest. Then I saw a picture of me sitting next to my fiancee. I couldn't believe my eyes how fat I looked. And I couldn't believe she still stayed with me lol. Then I found that site, started going to the gym 5-6 days a week, eating almost perfectly and drinking a crap load of water. The water helps the most and soda makes you retian too much water...so that was cut out of the diet. I did this for 2.5 months and got down to 170. THEN, I made the classic mistake. I can cheat a little on my diet now i'm doing great. So some cheese cake here, a candy bar there. Went to the gym only 2-3 times a week, got busy at work and life and stopped going altogether. The next thing I knew, 5 months later, I was at 192. Recommitted to eating right, but canceling my gym membership to save $$ i've started playing hockey again. I'm down to 182 right now but i've been losing a pound a week since playing hockey twice a week.

The best suggestion I have is drink lots of water, don't drink soda, and avoid fast foods n fried foods. Green tea is great for you and helps speed up the metabolism, tastes like crap but if your used to coffee or tea it's a good replacement. Eat immediatly after waking up, if your gonna cheat on a meal then let it be breakfast. Eating once you get up kick starts the fat burning process. Try cooking a couple days worth of food at a time for work.

So yeah, good luck guys. The will and motivation is the hardest part. So just by starting you have already achieved the motivation part.
