I am new here and do not know if I am even posting on the correct area but I have been researching for hours trying to find out something about a 2000 Cougar we are contemplating buying for our teenage daughter. The car seems to be in great condition but it has 133,000 miles on it. My questions are how much longer can we expect it to run? Is this a good car for a 17 year old girl? Are they reliable mechanically? Please answer these questions and throw in anything else you think I might need to know. The car is the V-6 auto trans. They are asking 4,600, also does this seem like a good price? : Thanks so much in advance!!!!

reliability is a hit an miss.. It really depends on how its been taken care of prior (General Maintenance and such). Over all its a very good car IMO. Perfect for a HS student. And being that its in ATX she should be ok. Every car has its fair share of problems, the cougar is no different. I don't know if you're getting it from a dealer or not, but make sure the fuel pump gets replaced via recall. To see if it qualifies have them check the VIN number. You should be ok though. If you take a look in the "Problems" section you will get a better idea of the more common issues and what to look for. I hope this helps you some and good luck.

if you go to the problems section there looks like alot of problems but there isnt its just mostly small things like a wire, light etc...

I would look for one with less miles i know in the MA area they sell 00 with 50,000 miles or less for the same price-mine was an 01 with 25,000 miles and i paid 9,999.00 for it....Mechanically, the only problems that i have had was the recall on the fuel pump -other than that i LOVE it-i'm 19 now and i had a 99 cougar when i was in high school-I liked it so much that i bought another one when it got totalled in a car accident-by the way it held up VERY well in the accident....it has always been very reliable and fun to drive too!
