The y-pipe one has the cat and the y-pipe as one whole unit. A reg. one stops than you attach the cat and than the rest of the exhaust system.... I think thats right!

Actually federal law prohibits a street driven vehicle to remove any or all of the standard emmissions controls systems from the vehicle at any time. If it is done, the car is deemed and "off-road" vehicle.

Since different states have different inspection laws, you just won't get caught...

I still think runnin a high flow cat on a 2.5L is still the ebst way to go to reduce low end power loss, and still gain in the mid and upper ranges.

It's still up tto you though...you car will be a bit louder or at least have a different tone without the cat.

pgtatx nailed it... still illegal, it just depends on your emissions, which i don't have but just get a hi-flow if you really feel it's hurting you. don't hurt the environment any more than needed, plus i've always heard a straight pipe will grant you rasp

True and true. Get a nice highflow. It's barely restrictive, sounds better, and reduces harm to the environment.

I don't know about other states, but here in PA there is about 1/4 of the state with full emissions (CEL and Computer Sniff) and the rest has whats called Visual Emissions test. They basically look for all your emission stuff to make sure its there. Ex: Cat replaced with a test-pipe!

It all depends what shop you go to and how much they frickin care, because with all the new emissions [censored] it just plugs into your ecu know and basically what it does its check your emissions from there and if you have 02 sensor simulator that wont set off you check engine light you shouldn't have a problem most shops don't even check all that [censored] the just basically check brakes tires any big noticeable exhaust leaks and light check, thats it I know this because I used to work in one and we didn't do all the [censored] inspection calls for. So if you have any buddy that work at a shop and you can get around it, I wouldn't say go for the one without the cat, just make sure you get a 02 simulator, if you need one I don't know if you do, I just got my svt contour and before I had a grand prix with out a cat and I needed a 02 simulator.

Not true though.

It is ILLEGAL to remove a FEDERALLY MANDATED emission device in all 50 states and 3 provinces.

Some states just do not have inspections.

...and don't ask me about my exhaust... :naughty:
