View Full Version : LT1 bu bye!!
I was leaving a freinds house and heading down O street ( cruise street ) to find a LT1 car accelerating fast from a light. So I cut around traffic and caught him at 17th and O. Phone rang and I was talking at light on phone we go and we both give it gas in second and let off. Pretty even. Well I get off phone.
I pull up to him roll down window and ask him if he wants to runs for some money. At that time he sees my SCR ( www.starcityracing.com ) sticker and he goes. What ya ranked. ( We have a top 10 street racing list ) So I told him to pull over and we can talk. Ends up being a guy from SCR so we BS for a min and I say we can run em but won't go for money since I know him from SCR then. I don't like betting people off the board thats not good sportsmen ship unless they are asshats.
Anyway we head up to my spot and catch a light and go from a stop. Light goes green I launch about 5500 RPM and pull a couple cars. We go till 95 or so and shut down. I'd say I had about 4 cars. He really didn't lose any ground once we hit third.
So we talk some more and he was surprised it pulled so hard out of the hole. I told him from a roll it would prob be a very close race. Well after more talking we leave and race from a roll. First roll race I brake booste din second and I think caught him off guard with the 3 horn honk and pulled a car or so. So I let off and we went from a 3rd gear roll without me brake boosting. I pulled about a fender up to 100. So it was alot closer from a roll.
Overall I have no idea what a stock LT1 runs I think low/mid 14s? Either way me running 15 PSI and a clutch with a big ass cat in my 2.25" exhaust I think she did pretty well.

O yes. Very soon it will have a 3" DP and a Cutout I can open when I race or close when not racing with stock exhaust out back for sleepa looks.

Did you see that new DP that has that bypass section built into it, with a servo that controls a TB like butterfly. You can open and close it from a switch in the cabin.
There are a few car specific models out there, or you could just buy the "y" section and the electrical components and weld it in yourself.
Good runs either way...

Very nice run. I don't think that guy was stock though. What year was it? A vette right? I used to stomp earlier LT1's in my old stang, and my Cougar rocks them with ease now, and you must CERTAINLY be faster than me with all that work. LT-series... whatever.. LS-series! There's some power!!

Naw, LS1 is the Vette. LT1 is the 350 in the F-body.

This was an LT1 F-Body but they also made LT-1 vettes.
Just as you can get an LS1 F-body and LS1 vettes.

I'd explain it but I'd prob miss a few points sooooo....I'll do it anyway.
Brake boosting is when you take a turbo vehicle that is already moving and apply brakes with the left foot and gas with the right. The brake pedel needs to apply pressure to hold the car back. The gas pedel needs to be pressed to allow the engine to rev and build boost like it normally would under load. Once you have brake boosted to desired level you release and BAM ur off... no waiting for turbo to spool as your already about 10 PSI into where as you would of had to wait a second or so to get that effect. It makes a huge difference when racing a turbo car.
Hope that kinda gets the point across anyway. There are better ways to describe it I am sure but thats the gist of it.

I gotta weigh in on the brake boosting thing. From my experience, I'd say that if you're running a manual transmission and keep the revs up you'll likely not gain much from brake boosting other than burnt up brake pads and the 'feeling' of thrusting out in front because you reduce load all at once.
If you have a manual just keep the revs up and then launch, I think brake boosting is more about a seat of the pants feel than actual results.

well, that's more of a launching thing...and you don't want to just hold the rev's up.
to launch a turbo car correctly, you pump the gas. this keeps the turbo spinning and builds boost.....slip the clutch and you've got your 1.7 60'.
from a roll it's different.....there's no need to keep the revs up because your already at whatever rpm. but you can build more boost by break boosting.
but you are right....it will kill your break pads;)

Good run, dude! You gotten that thing to a track yet? I wanna see a vid of your car, I've always like how clean it looks.
To answer the LT1/LS1 question.
The LT1 came first, and was put in both F-Body and Corvette. Then GM pulled their heads out and realized how much the LT1 sucked, so they came out witht he LS1. Now the next evolution is out, the LS2.
LT1/LS1/LS2 = 5.7L (347c.i. although most people still call them "Tree-Fiddy's"), made around 315-350hp, depending on application (Vette was always more than the Camaro.)
LS6 (new Vette/05 GTO) = 6.0L (not sure on cubes), making about 400hp.

Impressive run whoopin on the LT1.

Just a friendly correction.

I thought the LS6 was the 6L?
Oh well, thanks for the correction.

Brake boosting helps a ton from a roll. Yes it kills break pads but those are easy and cheap to replace. Trust me I have raced other turbo AWD cars from a roll and when I brake boost and the other car doesn't it isn't very pretty how bad I walk away. If we both break boost or both don't brake boost it stays damn even. It's a huge differance.
As for my car right now it is down getting the FMIC, fuel mods, standalone, and a couple other items added. Should be back up next weekend and running low 12's. Maybe a high 11 if I get the standalone running right.
