I read about this race a few months ago in World of Wheels and I've been thinking about entering ever since. It's called Targa Newfoundland and the link to the website is here (http://www.targanewfoundland.com). Here's another link to a different article at World of Wheels (http://www.wheels.ca/Newsd57c.php?CD=585&ID=1430). This article is old and there's been 2 races since. The race is 6 days long and goes all across Newfoundland on public roads as fast or slow as you wanna go. There are 2 different types of races and all kinds of cars from Kia Rio's to Porsche 911 GT3's. From what I understand, there are only 2 or 3 other places in the world that hold these types of races and last year there were cars from as far away as Europe in the race. If only I had a cheap 5.0 Mustang to destroy.

THis has been going on for 3 years now I believe. It has also had coverage on Global and TSN. Last July at the SVTOA track event Sean Hyaland has his yellow Targa NFLD mustang there as well as the a green cobra that belonged to the Moran's that has has all door panels, trunk, hood, roof replaced with CF, full cage, etc, etc.... It's been real interesting seeing that car be built up over the years right from when it was stock and then the new mods that arrived each winter.

Boss Racing which is owned by my brother-inlaw is building a full on 2000 Mustang race car for Rick Macleod. He raced last year and hopes to place better this year. I have been working weekends and nights helping to get it finished. It's supposed to be done today actually, Well not painted just fully assembled. Not very often you get to work on a 750hp SC Cobra motor. It's sweet and the car is awesome to. I want to go see the race this year, all the stories about last year are crazy. Last year the Mustang Rob Pacione was driving took a 15 foot fall off the side off the road. The only thing that saved the car was the Honda that they landed on. It went off just before Rob did. Well at least hondas are good for something. Anyways, Most of the cars are built for racing not just your everyday daily driver. So I wouldn't suggest someone entering your daily driver with a few bolt ons.

There are alot of full-on race cars but if you look at the entrants from last year there are probably more daily drivers than race cars. The story I read was about two cars, a completely stock Mazda6 wagon and an RX-8 with a stock engine, roll cage, mazdaspeed suspension and mazdaspeed rims; not really all that tweaked. They both did fairly well in their class. They also mentioned that many of the cars were old beaters that people picked up and spent modest amounts of cash on to get them ready to race.

If anyone comes over to Newfoundland to see/participate in the Targa event, hit me up with a message! This is where I'm from and never miss this event... I'd love to drive the Cougar in it, but it would destroy my tires on each run. I'll stick to car shows :)
