View Full Version : So, my first accident...

Well that took a shorter period of time than i expected...

I was coming around a turn in my friends neighborhood, i was on the inside, and there was a lady in a minivan coming my direction on the outside of it (i was turning right, she was making the left). She was going too fast and cut too sharp for the turn right as i was passing her, causing my front end to hit the rear of her van...

The thing that pisses me off is I'M the one they blamed for the accident...the cops pulled up and saw a 16 year old in a sports car, and a mom in a minivan...went right to her, talked for about 10 minutes to get her side of the story...came to me, gave me NO MORE than 25 seconds of talking time. AND THEN they accused me of admitting fault? What the hell, even if the accident WAS my fault i wouldn't have admitted to it. So here i sit with a cougar, minus one front end/fender/head light...a careless driving ticket, 3 points on my license, and god knows how much more for insurance. OH forgot to add that i had 4 witnesses in 3 different cars RIGHT behind me when it happened...cops didn't even ask who they were, or if there were any witnesses.

So Jimmy, how much do you want for that laser red front end? And i already posted something in the WTB section, but does anybody around here have a 99-00 driver side headlight they're willing to sell?

Well, so far we have:

The insurance company of the lady that was involved came to quote the damage on my car, as proof of the accident etc...well it ended up being $2,025.75 (and that is too low, they put down a two stage paint on the quote rather than three)

BUT, I bought the headlight from a salvage yard for $100.00 and through fastcougar i got a steal: Front end (with fog lights!), right and left fenders, and a rear bumper all for $150.00 (no shipping, the guy met up with my dad at a Wawa). So rather than paying $400 for a new OEM shipped, i got the front end AND fender for less than a 1/4 of what it's worth. I'll sell the fog lights, they're in perfect condition, so that could be up to $120.00 for the pair. Get rid of the passenger side fender, another $40.00 we'll say, and the rear bumper...i dunno what they're going for these days, but that's gonna go too...i'm hoping a good amount.

So my spending total so far is $250.00 as opposed to near $1,000.

We're getting it painted at a friend's, my dad works with a guy that offered to do both pieces, tri-coat, for $275. Bringing the total to $525 for a fixed car. And if you take off the money i could sell the rest of these parts for...it could be near $300-$350ish hopefully...i'm not complaining...NOT TO MENTION the fact that since we're taking it to court, if we win the case we could possibly end up with the money for the repairs...which would be the $2,025.75 mentioned before. And if i could make that much money off of getting in to an accident...then i think i've found my new career.

In other news, i'm selling my system...Picking up the new Kicker KX-1200.1 amp and two Solo-baric L5's for $400. One L5 blows my system away now, with only 600 watts running to it. So i figured i'd cop two. At $90 each rather than 300, who could resist? And the amp going for $220 rather than $800...i'm thinking of buying two...gotta love working at Circuit City.

Wow, you're the last person i'd thought would mention that, thinking of a new project or something? Or is your car still messed up from the parking lot incident around xmas time, i wasn't really up on the threads around then.

I have a project. Also, I heard from Jerry that your dad wasn't going to let you get these parts?

I have no idea how, but i convinced him. Only took a couple days to actually contact the seller, convince my dad, and pick the stuff up.

Anyway, the paint on all the pieces isn't so great, but i'd say the front was the worst. The rear is in great condition, structure-wise. There is a long white scratch along the top part of the rear, aove where the license plate goes, and the black mark you see is another part where the paint chipped up, but other than that there aren't any dings/indentations. You could come over sometime and check it out if you want.
