Hey guys I have a 2002 mercury cougar and I recently put some subs in the trunk. From the inside it sounds great, but from the outside its doesn't sound that good due to the rattling of something under the car or the trunk or something? I was wondering if any of you guys have had the same problem and what you did to resolve it? any ideas would be appreciated thanks

yea mine also rattled quite a bit. i dont know about yours but mine sounded like it was underneath the car so i pulled up the carpet and the jack was making most the noise so just wrapped a towel around it and its been a little bit better since. you could also get dynamat insulation. kinda exspenisve i think for what it is but does the job and makes the bass louder too.

haha same here . . . i searched a long while trying to find that rattle . . . i guess just live with it . . . you are going to have parts vibrating and rattling in a lot of spots

I just finished rattle proofing my 99 cougar today. Dynomat the latch interior and between the spoiler, too. There is a box under the car located on the bottom of the spare tire storage. I unscrew it and cut pieces of dynomat on top of this box . Cause it is metal to metal rattling together and some inside the bottom of the spare tire area. That was all my rattles. But I have a moon roof that rattles to,but I stick and object between the bar every time I open it

An easy fix for me was to just take off the license plate and put some dynamat on the back of it. Fixed about 95% of my rattles.

The trunk also has two vents, in the rear corners below the taillights
with rubber flaps over them, in many cases, big enough bass will
cause the flaps, to flap...

I used dynomat on the whole trunk and almost all my rattle is gone. except for my rubber vent flaps and the rear deck rattles a little. can't figure how to get the dynomat in there under the braces. I bought dynomat on ebay got 50sq ft for $62.00 so not really that exspensive.
