ive been searching this thread for a while now and ive looked everywhere to see what else you need to go from a 2.5 to a 3.0 in a 99 ATX cougar. Alot of people are saying to just get an electronic water pump. and upgrade fuel injectors. others are saying new fuel rails and all this and that. does anyone know just the jist of what u need to complete the sawp. i know yiu need the motor....the wire harness... and water pump. but what else needs to be bought to complete this.

Have you actually read any of the FAQ's or the threads that you have found when searching?

Reason I ask is because a 3L swap is as complicated as you want it to be based on what year/configuration you go with.

General Overview:

98-00 3L swap requires a "hybrid" configuration where you fill some holes in the block, modify a few spots to accept your alternator & then swap over your 2.5L heads.

01+ swaps are a whole other bag of worms. You can do a straight swap, but this would require fuel system modifications since the 01+ fuel rail & injectors are returnless and your 99 is most likely a return style system. This brings up a point that MUST be answered ... what type of fuel system does your Cougar have?

Due to ease of install, I would highly recommend that if you do a 3L swap, regardless of your fuel system type, retain everything connected the heads (LIM,fuel rail,UIM, etc.) from your current car. If this is done, your only concern is wether or not you run a hybrid (3.0L block, 2.5L heads) or if you run a straight 3L swap with 2.5L components (3.0L block & heads).

Why do people keep posting that or is it that the terminology is just too vague or misleading???

An oval port swap is as simple as port matching the head inlet ports to the split port LIM. No need to fabricate any parts to run the plastic 3L manifolds.

Just because you are using the oval port heads does not mean you "have to" use the tiny oval port manifolds and do the fabrication required to use them.

A "FULL 3L" means 3L heads and 3L block.

A "Hybrid 3L" means 2.5L heads and 3L block.

Induction system is completely separate.

I found this Post (http://fastcougar.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=83&threadid=117115&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=) by Rodneybur just by typing 3.0 swap in the search. it seems to be an extensive parts list. hope it helps
