I am planning on painting my headlights tomorrow and Tuesday, and do not remember what grit sandpaper I should be using. I did my own tail light covers and they turned out good, so I think I'll be OK doing the headlights. Could someone please tell me how many coats and when and with what to sand with. I was thinking 2 coats primer, 3 paint, and 3 clearcoat. (My car is Melina Blue if that matters)
Thanks a lot

Always start out with a lightly rough grit paper such as 1000 or so, Primer of course, then to a finer grit like 2000 to get a fine surface. This might help (http://www.cougardb.com/howtoshow.php?howtoid=18)

Yeah, you have a good plan. Thats pretty much what I did when I painted mine. Good luck! Just make sure you get as much of the black gunk off as you can before you start painting. It will make it much easier to put back together.

1000 is way to fine to start out with.....start with around 300 or 400 and move up to 800.... there is really no reason to go above 800
1000-1500 grit sandpaper has the same texture as a piece of looseleaf notebook paper.

Yeah, thats what I remember. I started at like 400 or so, and did in-between coats of around 600-800, and did a final sand at 1000. Came out just fine.
What type of paint are you going to use? I got a can at Sherwin-Williams for $20, and it matched perfect to my Spruce green.
