So, what CD4E trannies will bolt up to a 2001 ATX Cougar just fine? I've been poking around and results seem a bit suspect, so I thought I'd pose the question to the general populace. :)

not all of them..... anything pre 98 id say NO.... i beleive in 96-97 they changed the fireing order of the solinoids.... basicly if it came from a car that had an EEC-IV im preaty sure it doesnt work in our cars. That leaves out early contour/mystique and preaty much any mazda... Just because it bolts up doesnt mean you wont find yourself with a valve body that wont shift.... Im sure you realize that the 4cyl trans have diff bell housings ?

I happen to have an atx out of 99 coug in my garage. Gear of death. Its completely rebuildable though... i just havnt had the time or energy to do it because i dont have a buyer. If you want it let me know. I did one for Dave lepak on the boards here and his is still spinning dandy 2yrs latter.

Well, I'm only asking because of a supposed difference in the 99-00 CD4E and the 01-02 CD4E, hence my question. I am sure the 4cyl has a different bell housing, and I'm sure there are plenty of other differences in many other trannies, so that's why I'm asking:

Which ones are compatible with my 2001 V6 ATX?

If your 99 ATX is rebuildable and compatible with my car, and will be cheaper than the one I'm being offered by some OH NECO folks, then I'd be interested. PM me with a price. :)

Any V6 model CD4E will work. I would stay at or above your year though.

Thanks, that's the kind of info I was looking for. Any other corroboration from the general mechanically inclined masses? Demon?
