A bunch of guys from a "keyboard commando" site here in Arizona have pretty much called me out to race next weekend. One has a bone stock 97 Mustang V6 'vert, the other has a 2000 Camaro V6. So I'm planning on running these guys at Speedworld next weekend. Am I wrong to think I can take both of them? I know the V6 Stang will be a piece of cake. I'm wondering about the V6 Camaro though. I knew a kid that had a 95, and I beat him with my old 86 Accord. I dont think he knew how to drive though. Anyone else have experience with those?

I am trying to get a video camera person lined up to videotape these, so I have proof to own them on the side they talk sh*t on. If I get video, I'll post it here, too.

Any other advice would be appreciated too.

I think the Camaro is gonna be really f***ing close. Edmunds.com says 200 hp and 225 lb. ft. with a curb weight of 3306 lbs.

I played with Speedworld's "horsepower estimator" using those numbers to find an appx. ET and trap speed. With 200 hp and a weight of 3500 w/driver (the guy weighs about 200), it says it should run 15.97 @ 85.3 mph.

I'm not even worried about the V6 Stang, I know I'm gonna walk it. Its the Camaro I wonder about.

Okay. I owned a '94 3.4L auto camaro until here recently (I hate chevy, sold it w00t) My buddy ran it against my '99 Cougar 2.5 MTX as soon as we left the lot when I got the coug. and he hung for a few moments, and got dusted. My Wife drives a '04 Focus 2.3 auto 4door. My buddy has a '95 3.8l Mustang Manual. I kicked his ass in the Focus, and I kicked the Focus' ass in the Coug. Add in that the 'Stang is a vert, and as such heavier than a normal 'stang and you've got it in the bag. Only deciding factor is that 'Maro, as it's a 3.8l, and those aren't slouches, for NA 6's. But, it's auto. Launch well, shift great, and kick ass.

I hear ya on the probes.. such beautiful cars have such bad reputations. Race one of em on the twisties.. not many cars can hang w/ them on the curves, let alone they weigh less and have similar hp as the coug. Honestly, I wish they came out w/ another probe, if it looked good i'd drop the coug, probes are teh s3x.

I'm not 100% sure of that.

The Cougar was a coupe based on the CDW27 platform. It was conceived and developed in Ford's Small and Medium Vehicle Centre which has its main facilities located in England and Germany. The Cougar's body was not a scraped Mazda design. The body was designed from scratch by a design team headed by Darrell Behmer, an American. The Cougar follows Jack Telnack's "New-Edge" design philosophy that was used on the Ford Ka and the Ford Puma in Europe. The Cougar is the first car sold in North America to feature this design philosophy. The entire European Ford range uses new-edge design. In North America, only the Cougar and then the Focus are the only new-edge cars. Mazda did not use the new-edge design philosophy. Mazda design studios were (and likely still are) independent from the Ford's design studios. In fact, the Mazda concepts that were being shown as the basis for the RX-8 came out before the Cougar was even released and they did not look a thing like the Cougar. I also cannot fathom the successor of the RX-7 being based on a FWD sedan platform.

As for suspension and chassis development of the Cougar. Dr. Ulrich Eichorn was in charge. He was head of Ford Vehicle Dynamics (but now heads VAG Research) which were the group responsible for nearly all the vehicles in Ford European range... and maybe some vehicles unique to non-European markets too but I'm not too sure. Mazda had really nothing to do with this either.

In fact, it was more likely that the Cougar was supposed to be the "Ford Capri" in Europe but became the Cougar instead. Ergo, see the images below provided by Fern a long time back showing the styling cues that carried over from the older Ford Capri and OSI to the Cougar to the "New Concept Capri".

Bobby if u think you'll struggle with the stang think again. I stayed with my friends 96' V6 5speed with gears & I have the wonderful (Smart-ass Talk) Zetec, so get out there & shut them up already. But u shouldn't have to much problems with either of them especially if there auto's. Just don't F*ck up on ur shift points & you should be fine.

MY viewpoint is the thunderchicken and the cougar have been the same platform since, what, '73? The Probe Has, and if they bring it back, always will be a FWD car. This goes hand in hand with both theories. I konw it doesn't matter cuz they're both discontinued, but had to explain my reasoning. Not trying to start a battle, cuz I have mad respect for ya. Well my point was that it looks more likely that the Cougar was the new Capri, not the new Probe. The Probe had no design heritage and no car that it evolved from, the Cougar obviously did.

No WAY you got that time if your secondaries aren't working. Ive seen 2.5's with a lot more mods that can't get out of the 16s. The secondaries were working just fine on that run.

Its absolutly not made up. I'm gonna have to take some pics of the part thats messed up and not hooked up. I have no idea if somehow that lever was somehow still opening them, but it was NOT hooked into the spot where its suposed to be. I put it where it was just resting on the lever to open the secondaries, so maybe it was still engaging them somehow?

But no, I'm not BSing the fact that the piece wasn't hooked up properly when I ran that last run. Actually, from run 3 on, I couldn't get out of 16.2's. Until I found that peice not hooked up and I kinda rested it on there, then I went one last time and ran the 15.871.

I said the same thing, I shouldn't run 15.871 with not IMRC's. But my mph on that run was only 85.925. When I ran last weekend, I trapped at 87.005. My top end didn't feel very strong, which is why I was led to believe that I ran that time with no IMRC's.

the cougar is not the new probe.. similarities: 2 door hatchback w/ a diplacement of a 2.0 i4 or a 2.5 v6, and I think you mean your favorite gen. was 93-97.. not 94-97. The second gen began in in 93 (took over the ugly a** boxy look w/ the sexy curves :) ) Black 95 GT 5 speed :) :) :) I want one still, flame all you want. I <3 those cars.
