after several hour plus trips, my exhaust is getting on my nerves a tad. is there anyway to quiet it down, short of a new (or stock) exhaust? i currently have a borla dual trubendz setup.

I personally could NEVER see myself asking this question. I like loud exhaust, especially the Borla dual setup.

I've got custom 2.5" Dual Flowmaster EXhaust... Its loud as hell and I'm so friggin tired of it.. The cabin noise is so loud. I'm ready to go back to stock exhaust... or at least this summer when i go ahead and buy Trubendz Borla exhaust.. maybe with a resonator..

2 layers of dynamat extreme on your floorboards and trunk and 1 layer in your doors

smart idea.. how hard would all that be..trunk would be easy.. what about the floorboard.. door panels..and maybe even the headliner?

well, some people live in states where exhausts are illegal. that and having an exhaust that is obnoxiously loud pretending the car is something it is not isn't always the best thing.

i have the trubendz borla with magnaflow resonators (like the kits the svt contour kits have) and it quiets it down somewhat. on certain rpm and mph ranges, it can be almost stock quiet. so leaving for work at 530am doesn't wake everyone up and alert cops to my location. i still with it were more quiet though.

true.. it does come down to what you want, quiet for yourself or quiet for your neighbours. Personally I am performance over function, so louder yes but performance gains outweight that. I understand where some people come from. 4 hour road trips to portland do get a little tiresome on the ears but at certain RPMs it actually fades off to nearly oem sound levels.

I suggest 2 options both around the same cost:
1) Dynamat your entire car this will do it plus you will have some excess to play around with Brown Bread (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1498&item=5761900593&rd=1)

2) Buy a resonator and have it installed inline after your cat.

I am going to go buy the dynamat this summer cause I love the sound of my exhaust. Going with the dynamat will also get rid of those insesstant rattles and squeaks and just make your car feel more solid. Your adding an extra 30 lbs of weight so its not that bad.

well, the resonators provided from trubendz are straight thru. they are not like the stock resonator. they shouldn't provide any flow restriction.

Put in a turbo ... that will quite the exhaust nicely ... with more power to boot ;)

hahahaha!!! YES!! THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!:beer:

weight kills power though, so it's sort of canceling the gains of the exhaust, not quite, i'd go w/ a resonator

awesome, i never thought of the dynomat idea, which is prolly how i will end up going with this. how hard is it gonna be to install under the carpet in the back thought?

And where is it illegal to put any type of exhaust on your car? Yeah, I know they have limits in places, but I've never heard of aftermarket exhaust being outright banned in places.

if you apply the entire roll of dynamat (100 sq feet) thats still only 30 lbs.. I can see if your shaving lbs for the drag, but 30 lbs is a difference found in a few gallons of gas. A resonator will be about 15-20 lbs anyways.

If he was shaving lbs, he wouldnt care about the noise, he would probably be running a straight pipe with a high flow cat.

after reviewing the dynomat plan it seems like it prolly wouldn't do TOO much, and it would be a royal pain to get the floor carpet up to install it..... does anyone know WHERE i can get a resonator?

you think a resonator would be that heavy? hmm, i dunno

Get it welded, that will definetly quite it down and smooth it out. You may not think you have exhaust leaks but any saddle clamped Trubendz kit will be loud because of tiny exhaust leaks.

ya mass. can be strict. I took my car to get inspected and at idle the guy said it was way too loud. I have the trubendz flowmaster. Some places it is a pain.

turn up your radio

that way you dont have to hear the exhaust and, like me, whatever else is wrong with your car

I bought a true borla dual exhaust setup. (Not the trubendz version) This setup came with dual resonators that have polished rolled tips on them. I took the resonators off to have a beefier sounding exhaust and now I have the resonators left over. If you are interested I would sell you the two resonators for $60. That is $30 a resonator/Tips. PM me if you are interested and I can explain it in further detail. I don't have pics of them.

Did you slide off the two rear sections? Or did you cut them just before the rsonators?
I may be interested.

Ok, on my silver cougar I have the Bassani Dual exhaust, and I want to quiet it down a little. The exhaust has 2 muffulers at the rear, and none in the center. Could I put a resonator in the center or another muffler? If so, want should I get, and where can I find them? Don't mean to hijack I just don't see the point in starting another thread.

Lol. Also known as noise dampener for piping in the construction business. I have a whole 50 ft. roll sitting in my garage  About half the cost of Dynamat too! ;)

I have a single outlet w/ a dynomax in the middle and it is alot quieter then any dual setup I've heard. Go to a single outlet.
