1 more question: I am swapping in an SVT engine with a return style fuel system. I will also be putting in the SVT computer to run the engine. My cougar has the returnless fuel system. Can I swap the fuel rails and still use the SVT ECU(returnless fuel rail on SVT engine)... OR can I use the SVT's return system with my car (if so what other mods need to be completed?). The only other option I can think of is using my returnless fuel system on the SVT engine with my stock computer with a chip from... ? Thanks for helping out!

Stick with the SVT system; you'll need the bigger injectors anyway.

Do I need to add a return fuel line to my fuel system then? I currently have the returnless, and the SVT is a return style.??

Ooooh... what a mess.

The SVT return-style ECU will FREAK OUT if you fire it up with a returnless fuel pump connected to it. Your stock ECU will not like the high compression and air flow of the SVT motor either, and your 17# inkectors will be inadequate, but at least it will run that way; just not as well as it should.

Adding a return line sounds like a dangerous situation to me. Not to mention, you'll have to add a fuel pressure regulator and the wiring to it, as well as a return-style fuel PUMP.

You may be looking at a custom chip. Personally, I guess I'd keep the stock ECU, fuel rail, and injectors for now. Then find a set of returnless SVT injectors to swap in there. Then worry about tuning with either a custom chip, or a later-model SVT ECU.

There are guys who know more about this than me, though. DanG or DemonSVT probably have good advice. Wait for them to chime in here...

Make it easy on yourself. Match the fuel system to your car and the ECU to your car. Swap over everything from the stock fuel system to the SVT engine (purchasing the correct 19# oval harness injectors to go with your car's harness (return-style uses square harness, oval for returnless) in your car. Then get yourself a 2000 SVT Contour ECU (ONLY the 2000 will work, as they were the only returnless SVTs!) A '98 or '99 SVT ECU will freak your car the f*** out, as there's no ECU code for a "smart" pressure-controlling pump found in returnless cars.
