Here's what I recently bought:
Alpine CDA-9833 Head Unit (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NqY2hxpi3qS/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=500CDA9833)
Four Infinity Reference 6802cf (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NqY2hxpi3qS/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=1086802CF) 6x8 speakers

Next I want to buy a sub(s) and amp(s). I am somewhat of an car-audio noob, so help me out please. I don't need super high-end stuff and I also don't want to pay more than I need to. I was thinking on 10" sub, like this (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NqY2hxpi3qS/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=51000&I=108BASSLIN&search=basslink) and maybe a 5 channel amp like this (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-NqY2hxpi3qS/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=500MRVF450). Suggestions?

My head unit can be connected to my battery with a special cable (that I have) and then the unit doubles as an amp. Does anyone have know if that works well?

Thanks for any info/help/suggestions you can give.

I'm looking at the Basslink for my Impala, and I've heard good things about them. But if you get that, you don't need a 5-channel amp; just 4 channels (the Basslink has a built in amp for itself). A 5-channel amp won't hurt, but it may be more than you need. Keep in mind with the Basslink you'll need to run a dual-amplifier wiring setup (again, what I'm doing in the Impala). Take a look at my wish list (http://www.crutchfield.com/I-rCW9c000/W-waehe9pyr60wh2r/R-pyyzghbc9jqd1s0/cgi-bin/wishlistviewer.asp) to see what I'm planning for the Impala. Note that I plan to keep the stock head unit in the Impala, so your setup will be slightly different, but it might be helpful to compare.

The Alpine is probably a better amp than the Kenwood I've selected, but I've been really happy with my other Kenwood stuff and my hearing is so messed up I probably wouldn't be able to tell any difference between Kenwood and Alpine anyway.

If you do want the 5-channel amp, it may make more sense to find a 10" or 12" sub, put it in a generic box, and toss that in the back of the car, instead of the Basslink. It's probably cheaper to do that than to run a Basslink and a separate five channel amp. Or, put in two 12" subs and buy the box I have sitting on my bedroom floor - for sale at a price you won't believe: $25! (Shipping is killer, though, but if you're going to CougarFest I could give it to you then.)

what kind of bump do you want? if you just want a little bump then some reference 10'''s would be kind of nice. but if you want to break windows their are plenty of decently cheap ways of bumping. my friend has a dakota with 6 12''s in it if you want some pictures ill post some up

a single 12 inch kappa sub would go well with those speakers and you wont need much amp to push it.
