I was researching some prices for Ford Escape engines and found that a junkyard down the street from my house had a 2003 with 27k on it. I called him up and he said they had a small fire and that the intake and TB had melted on the engines, but he would let me have it CHEAP.
He said they tossed out alot of damaged parts and they felt this one was savable (except the intake). Not sure if he was full of it or not.
Just wondering if anything important for swap could have been damaged on it or if I should just forget about it and keep searching.
Im assuming he would let me have it for a couple hundred bucks and he would even give me a warranty. I think the price savings is definately worth it and could even allow me to do some internal work to block.
Thoughts?

Keep looking ... a car that has had it's engine bay on fire is not the place to be looking for used engine blocks ;)

if i can pay 200 bucks for a good engine i see no reason to spend more than 100 bucks on that one which may have fire damage.

the engine wasn't on fire, the whare house was. The heat from the fire cause the intake to melt. The egnine was fine when they pulled it, but got damaged afterwards. Sorry for the confusion.
Where did you get an engine for 200 bucks? custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

They wanted 400 for the engine. LMAO... I found another place that would sell me a complete one with nearly equal mileage for 500.
Needless to say I am still searching for an engine.

I agree with most of the above advice.
Skip the engine!
Far too many better choices for good prices.
If you are planning to do an entire rebuild and they'd sell the engine for $100 or maybe $200 then it's not a bad choice.
However any engine with damage like that will require a full rebuild. You know if the fire was hot enough to melt the composite intake all the seals and gaskets are trashed. Maybe more internal damage as well. Guides, oil pump, et cetera.

Yea, if I could of got it for 200 I would have done a full rebuild. Oh well.
One thing that I find strange is the price differences between a Taurus engine and Escape engine of the same year. I know Escapes are a new model vehicle, but come on. I've seen an average of about $500 more for the Escape Engine versus the Taurus Engine (same year, same mileage).
I really wanted the escape engine, but will settle for the Tuarus engine. It seemed the escape engine has more usable parts (PS Pump, AC, Oil Pan, Oil Pan) but the price difference upfront just isn't worth it.
Still searching though.
Good note though... I found a 99 SVT UIM for 150... quite a deal. Not sure if they are sending me the TB, but assuming they will. I like surprises anyway.
