View Full Version : High-Beam Lamp too Hot for Foglamp?

Like many 2001/2002 Cougar owners (99-00 are different), I've been using original equipment, 65-watt, high-beam, 9005 bulbs in place of the stock 45-watt, 9145 foglamp bulb.

Question, have other "9005 bulb in the foglamp" users had a problem with the foglamp lens breaking?

I ask because during an hour long, rainy drive with foglamps on, my left (drivers) side foglamp lens broke. It could have been a road hazard but, I can't help wondering whether the high beam bulb is too hot for the fog lamp assembly application and, when the water splashes on the overheated lens, it causes it to break?

Any one else with experiences?

FYI - 01/02 foglamp assembly = $80 List + tax at the dealership or about $68 shipped from web based OE parts suppliers (Fordparts.com or Fordpartsonline.com).

Thanks

I've had 9005 Sylvania Silverstars in my 02 fogs the entire time I've owned the car. Probably a rock or something else broke it.
