Ok- I've found a ton of info but need a little more.

1) Has anyone done a straight 2003 taurus engine swap into a cougar(3.0l UIM and all)

1b) If so then did you have to switch out the fuel system(or did you PNP the heads for the SVT UIM/LIM)?

2) I need to confirm that this engine has the new windage tray and only needs a new pickup tube(YL8Z) and the 2.5l oil pan.

3) If I'm doing the full swap do I still need the clevite bearings(main and rod bearings). Why?

4) Rerouting the 3.0l's EGR tube isn't a problem. Is the main purpose for hood clearance(If so a hood isn't necessary-joke)?

I know that a 2004 3L taurus engine has oval ports and is different than our 2.5L, but I would like to just connect my fuel line to the 3.0l's line and let tuning do the rest(sounds too easy!). I figure with the engine running exactly as set up in the taurus I can splice and reconnect my fule line to the 3.0L's fuel line. I will probably need a new fuel pressure regulator from a 3.0L to swap in. Besides these parts and tuning I don't think much else will need to be done. Any constructive input?

1. Yes. Puck Puck. This type of swap would net 200 crank HP. (or more if you do p&p heads, headers etc)
1b. Yes you have to fabricate your fuel lines as the 3.0 fuel lines exit the engine on the opposite side, etc.

2. only the 3.0 Escape engine will have this. The taurus does not.

3. Yes always do this. Its not so much a 'need' so as 'stupid' for not doing it while the motor is out and apart.

4. dont know.

01 and up 3.0 engines have the oval ports> also easily identifed by a plastic 3.0 UIM

Just so you know this 3.0 swap would result in the least HP. The 3.0 oval port cams are very tame.

It would be wise to machine out the oval port heads to match the 2.5L lim which would allow you to use the 2.5L UIM and LIM and then install 2.5L cams and timing equipment. (SVT cams would be ideal)

This setup has been proven to produce a minium of 200whp.

Just as an aside, if you intend to do a FULL swap (eg: using the full taurus engine and no cougar parts) how are you gonna swap the bearings in?

bearings and cougar parts go on opposite sides of engine....bearings on bottom ( under engine ) while cougar intake manifolds go on top .

Flip engine over remove oil pan and there are the studs.

1. I would use the split port manifolds personally. All mid 2000+ 3L Duratecs are oval port.
1b. Custom fail rails, hope it doesn't leak, EGR tube, IAC mount, TB bracket, Vacuum tree, etc, etc...

2. All 2001+ Duratecs have the upgraded windage tray.
Only the 3L Escape uses the same pickup and oil pan.
The oil pan was revised 3 times. The 3M4Z or 5L8E are the best revisions. They only on 04+ Escapes which are subject to possible Zircon contamination.
Just buy the new pan & pickup and skip the newer Escape engines.

3. Clevite rod bearings are a must for any rebuild of any Duratec. Period. The stock mains are good.

4. No. The 3L UIM mounts everything in a different location. Hence all the fabrication required.
