yeah, this was hot! my friend Julian wanted a comparison between the two stages......interesting results.
my mods: up pipe, TBE(catless), and boost controller(15psi)
his mods: up pipe, TBE(highflow cat), chip, and turboXs top mount intercooler. he's also running 17psi.
1st run: 25 roll both of us in 2nd......3rd honk, we hit it and i'm out a half a car already. slowly pulling in 2nd, we hit 3rd.....well, i couldn't find 3rd, lol. pissed me off so i just let up.
got him some gas.....
2nd run: 1st gear roll at 20......3rd honk again and we nail it. i'm out again, half a car length. hit 2nd and pull some more.....found 3rd on the 2nd try and he pulls back a little. run it through 3rd and shut it down with him at my rear bumper.......
last run: 1st gear roll at 20.....we hit it and both of us are dead even......slam 2nd, still even......hit 3rd.....EVEN.....end of 3rd, i start pulling. lock 4th and pull hard! shut it down with a car length.
very interesting i thought......also, i had one passenger and so did he. he also has 224whp.......
we discussed our driving techniques afterwards.....he was shifting at redline and i was shifting at 6500(where boost falls off) he slams his gears just like i do and drives very well......i can't find 3rd, lol. they also noticed that i had my a/c on. well, there's 10hp i lost. i was also running 15psi and he was at 17psi. i'm catless and he has one......that's hurting him up top.
they did like the little blue flame that would shoot out of my exhaust every time i shifted:biggrin: Micah is happy, lol!

I'm surprised you jumped out front so easily especially with a chipped WRX.
Don't they react really well to ECU mods?

that they do Mike. we talked more about it and it seems he may need a better tune. as far as me jumping out in front, well.....he has a huge TXS intercooler with a stock turbo. that will create more lag than my stock TM. it's helping him out as far as density but that's not enough. also the fact that he was shifting well after boost fell off. a normal stage 3 gains a length with every gear so there's definatly something going on. we both need a tune, lol......i don't have any kind of EM. i really need a utec......

i have a friend, who makes films, that is coming to shoot a scene at my apt the first of april. as payment, he's going to get his camera guy to follow me and get some shots. he's accually a little more excited about doing that than shooting the scene, lol.
i haven't seen it personally but i've been told it looks something like this....

Yeah that would make sense about the larger IC with stock turdblo.
So if we took the cat off of Greg's Rex it would make teh flames?

yes.....catless = teh flame goodness! do you guys still have the sniffer test in your state? if all they do is OB2 then he can get an 18mil nonfouler and fix the "cel" he'll get from removing the cat. i'd remove it though.....it improves top end and sounds very agressive under boost.

Being every company has their own "Stage" determinations...I was just wondering why you deem your car a stage 2, and his a stage 3?
Most stage 2 setups Will include some kind of ECU upgrade...or more than just a TBE...
I'm only asking cause the whole stage thing seems to get out of hand. I speak to people all the time with their "staged" cars (not only wrx's), and when I ask what they actually have, it goes from an intake to N2O, to exhaust mods, etc.
My friends "Stage 3" wrx put down like 265whp or more... and at the time his was at the time a Vf30 upgrade + UTEC + Fuel upgrade + Turbo Back + FMIC, his stage 4 was a FP green upgrade, larger injectors, and a TXS dyno tuned UTEC...that was a crazy ride.
Also, what kind of engine management was he running?
I'm not being an a$$ or anything, just wondering...
I also just ordered some borla headers and a stealthback, gonna use my cobb AP stage 2 tune till I get onto the dyno and get a tuned ECUtek map. I promised myself I wouldn't mod this car...but I just had to...

no problem at all my friend......every aftermarket company has their own stage. two examples below.....one difference is that turboxs doesn't do the uppipe until stage 4 but vishnu does it at stage 0. i didn't like the precat sitting right there infront of my turbo....a piece breaks off and by by turbo. that was the first mod i did. then intake, boost, and finally turbo back.

technically stage 2 consists of a turbo back and some type of boost increase. the engine management is just a lot more efficient because you can fine tune your boost, fuel, etc.
edit: i don't know what type of EM he's using but it just goes to show the importance of a good tune. the utec will be the only thing going in my car as far as a chip goes.

micah, your flame is mostly blue though. and it was one quick pop. just a big blue ball then it was gone. still pretty sweet.

Shows the importance of staying in your powerband also. Looks like him continuing up in the rpms was only hurting him?

I can usually shoote flames as well, usually when I run it up to about 6k under a good load, then shift. I have been told that they shiit blue. I know when I get them because I can hear the pop in my car. :) Nice runs btw, you do have some good stories.
