My friend has an '86 Cougar and he had problems where the speedometer panel would go out. He took the car to a local mechanic who at one point replaced the panel. It worked for a couple of weeks, then blew another fuse. He has had it back a couple of times, and the shop has not been able to figure out the problem. I'm not familiar with the car or what else might be on the fuse with the instrument display panel. I would suspect/hope the shop checked the alternator over to make sure it was providing good power; unfortunately I don't have a volt-ohm meter available to me right now so I can't do that. For the moment my friend has taken up a new hobby -- replacing fuses. Can anyone offer suggestions as to what might be causing this problem? Thanks!
