I went out tonight to the "Imports vs. Domestics, 9/11 Tribute" races out at Speedworld Motorplex northwest of Phoenix. Sat in the lanes for 3 hours waiting to run. Got to see jet cars go thru twice, and a bunch of crotch rockets doing stunts for 10 minutes though. Oh well.
Finally got up to the line for my run. I cleaned the tires of a little (not a huge smoking burnout, just enough to scrub the crap off them) and got lined up. Kinda slow at the tree, with a .251 r/t. Got BAD wheel hop, and had to feather the gas to get my traction back (a lesson learned from that POS 240sx). Finally got into it, had a good clean run, clean shifts. Had to go to 4th gear just before the finish line. Times are as follows.
R/T: .251
60': 2.584
330': 6.916
1/8: 10.480 @ 69.326 mph
1000': 13.456
1/4: 16.138 @ 87.005 mph
I really feel with a better r/t and better launch, I may be able to put this thing in the high 15's. Only mod on the Cougar is an Injen short-ram. I know with a nice Flowmaster dual exhaust, I'll be there easy.
I got scared at the end of the run, because when I lifted off the gas, the car stalled. Start it back up, stalls right away. OK, now I'm freaking out, thinking I blew it up. I get pulled off to the side of the access road and popped the hood. First thing I looked at was the short-ram and the vaccuum lines. Sure enough, the big one closest to the firewall had slid off somehow. Popped the hatch, got out a screwdriver, and tightened the clamp back down and was on my way. I took a nice deep breath and thanked Melody for holding together, btu scaring the piss out of me. Not sure when the line came off, if it was before I passed thru the traps or not.
Go back around, and the staging lanes are CLOSED! Damnit! I was out there for 4 hours, only to get 1 run in. I'll have to go back when its not so busy and a big event like this one.
Oh, Melody passed 125k miles on the way out to the track. I think she gave me a nice gift for that with the run. I honestly went out with a goal of 16.5, with 16.3 being my "If all goes well" run. I wasn't expecting a 16.1!
Oh well, I had a great time, and hopefully I can go more often and get more practice.
