Well last year(first year racing) my personal best was a 16.3@84, in 87 degree July temperatures with high humidity. My cars a 99 ATX. Since then, Ive added GMK cold air extension, Ford Racing Tranny cooler, MSDS headers(being shipped), as well as a bunch of maintenance work(new plugs, 9mm wires, fuel filter, fuel pump, coil pack). Also I plan on running with my stock 15's rims compared to my heavy ass 17's.

Im hoping i can pull a 16.0 or 15.9 when I head down to the track in the next month or two. Is .3 asking too much from my newest mods, cooler weather and more experience? Lets hope not lol.

How bout you guys?

Once I get my 15s and BFG drag radials I hope to be in the mid to upper 14s.

Last year my biggest problem was traction. Now I have more mods, and after getting the rims and tires in my possession I should be able to hit it easily :)

i know for sure i will be in the 13's sometime this year...and with a little extra cash maybe 12's(but that's prolly pushing it).

anywhere in the 16's... grrrr, it shouldn't be that hard. i'm so lame, i figured my cold air should drop me that .02 tenths of a second

I expect to be in the mid 14s or better all motor.

I am actually much more excited about my suspension upgrades. I'll really Really be able to tear up some of my local moutain downhill/uphill roads on the BlueRide Parkway. Not to mention the AutoX season! Now THATS some fun sh1t! Need to take some photos while I'm at it too hehe.

I want to hit 15.3 or lower. Low 15's, anyway.

My stock exhaust and stock TB kept me at 15.9 at Fest. A good exhaust and SVT TB, as well as some more launching practice should get me there, I think.

MY CF2K5 prediction is that it won't happen. Not enough time really. You should at least be a 1/4 into your project already in order to make it happen by fest. Even then it'll take more $$ then that to hit mid 13's let alone 12's. TRUST ME.

03-18-2005, 01:55 PM
TRUST ME i said nothing about doing it by fest...i'm not even going.

oh yah and don't tell me i can't cause it is very VERY much a possibility.

me and a friend will be doing all the work ourselves and it will be on a tight budget(i have a few hookups;) )

but hey even if it doesn't happen it will most definitely be fun trying right?

well, if yourt not targetting fest then it is very possible. What are your plans for power, tranny, suspension, and wheels/tires? I had a major issue with traction that was wheel hop, lack of slicks and a stock drivetrain related. If you can put down at least 225 to the wheels and solve those issues then mid 13's is VERY possible. I'm very interested to hear your plans and maybe even give you a couple ideas.

i have every single preparation thing done in order to "take a beating from a beast"...

me and a close friend ,whom i have learned so much from it really is not funny(god help him he just got married 2 days ago...HAHA), have some ideas...we've been researching the rear-mount turbo idea made famous by STS. and i think i may be the first to try this on a cougar...the ONLY thing holding this up would be tuning (i know its nowhere near the ADC setup but maybe they could help with a chip that is "close enough" to get me going at least), we have everythingthing else "mocked up"-in our heads atleast.

ABOVE- will happen after a 3L swap which hopefully i can come up with the money to hook the heads up with some PnP by Jesse. i am going to see if Demon's thoughts on using the escape intake/mazda6 exhaust cams work out...cause i do not have svt cams and i sure as hell ain't buying them custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif(i work at a bank but i'm no theif!)

so basically my plans are to have a 3L with stock internals(except for replaced bearings) and a turbo setup with 8lbs. daily and 12-13 at the track on some mixed race gas.

as for what i already have...i have koni adj. struts---G/C coilovers---filled motormounts---torsen---fidanza flywheel---a custom built clutch(really i have no idea what it is, 2 years ago my parents had it put in so :rolleyes;) which will prolly be replaced with a Spec stage 3---upgraded shift forks and shift tower---a set of 15" stockies begging me for some drag radials  ---

Now time for a lil' Q & A...anyone...lol

Have you drawn up any ideas for the mounting and placement of the turbo back there? Also have you thought of how your going to run the oil lines to the turbo? I'd suggest following either the brake lines or the fuel line. With the gas tank relatively close to the turbo you might want to consider some kind of insulation on the bottom of the tank. It's not really needed or neccessary but piece of mind is good and you never know how alot of heat would affect the fuel pump. Again, it's prolly very minimal risk, but still a risk.

The drag radials are def gonna be needed along with some upgraded axles. Ask around about the axles though, I don't have much knowledge on whats available as an upgrade. An oil cooler would be nice too. Gutting the interior on track days? Short throw? And possibly consider a better clutch as you greatly benefit from power shifting and a stage 3 may not hold up, but a stage 4 will be ruff for the street.

ahhhh the oil...we thought about that long and hard...and i think we are not gonna run the oil through the motor...to many lines. i'm gonna have a trunk mounted resevoir of i dunno 2-3 qts. It will gravity feed to the turbo and have a small pump and maybe some type of cooler back up to the trunk. as for the cooler i was thinkin of getting ahold of one of the p/s fluid coolers and hooking it up to the turbo's oil supply just to cool it down a little. And i would prolly change that oil about every other time i change the oil in the motor.

i would definitely do some heat protection back there...but really with the turbo in a remote location like that it does not get anywhere near as hot as say...under the hood.

i will have radials...as a matter of fact i will be ordering those here shortly. and i do have a lifetime warranty on the axles i have now but that will prolly get old having to replace those every other month!

i do want a short throw-i take out the subs and the spare tire...and i'll prolly snatch out the back seats maybe.

i don't how it will work out but it will be a fun project this i know!

This is def a project I'd like to follow along with. Be sure to take pics as you go, i'll even host them if need be. The oil solution your proposing should do the trick, and you should be able to get away without a filter as it's only the turbo being fed. So thats another positive. You could mount it in the tire well and cut a hole in one of the rubber drain plug or remove it all together.

12's in a Cougar for under $5k? That'd be interesting to see, if you can pull it off...

For reference, Buckshot has closer to $15k in parts alone into his Contour, and I believe he's still the "King of the Hill". (He also did 100% of the work himself, minus the tranny which was sent to HMS.)

Good luck man, and when yer done we'll have to line em up side by side, CF06, perhaps? ;)

i don't think i'm doing anything else to my rex......13 flat is the best i can hope for at this point, which is possible considering someone went 13.3 with a stock rex and boost controller.

wife wants my rex, so new car at the end of this year......times are anyones guess;)

Goal reached without drag radials or 15s. So im shooting for a low 14 high 13, by the end of the summer.

To get anything below an 18
I just made my first trip out to the strip...it was a massacre. Hopefully I can get that cold air extension, improve my driving skills, etc...
Any suggestions? v6 atx, intake, exhaust, bosch plugs (not that they help that much)

Yeah take out your Bosch plugs and use Motorcraft our Autolites
The Bosch plugs don't work well with the 2.5L

How so? They aren't the Platinum-4's if that's what you're referring to. They are platinum, but just the dual prong ones. I had NGK Iridium ones but those crapped out in a couple cylenders as did the stock wires after 40k miles.

I've never had any luck with the Bosch Plat. series.

just an opinion

well if i can break the low 17s with my atx at a mile above sea level i will be happy... last time i ran i pulled a 18.5 and since then i have put on headers, svt uim/tb, and a trubendz testpipe.... im very anxious to go run my car..

i think you'll be good for low 17's man. i'm wondering if i can break mid 16's *crosses fingers* That's so sad though, i was really hoping i could get this car into 15's n/a :(

I'd say so too, maybe even lower than that. My fastest time in my ATX was a 17.2, will just an intake and exhaust. I just went last night and ran all 17.5's, with all of the same mods? I plan on doing the same mods as drumminguy81 so I should be having faster times.

Tygerr

Ha ha. Me and drumminguy have the same mods, minus the test pipe which i'm gonna give my local exhaust shop a shot when i go home this wknd.

drumminguy81
07-09-2005, 07:59 PM
yea but my problem is im a mile above sea level so that makes my times about a second or so slower than at sea level... i am still yet to make it to the track... but one of these days when i get my hood back on the car ill get out there..
