Well in prep for my 3L build I had my dealer get me some prices for various parts... amung those was the 3.0L Escape oil pan we all know about. The part number I got from here was 3M4Z-6675-BA Aparently there is one newer still.... 5L8Z-6675-AA Last I knew the first letter of the ford number represents year of introduction.... that would make that part very new from what I know. The list price for the part is 151.43 at my dealer (no i dont pay that) and the description is Pan ASY - ENGINE OIL.

Does anyone know anything about this? Did my parts guy have a brain fart or is this really ANOTHER oil pan?

Also... Pistons.... are they ONLY available with the rod or can I just order a set of damn pistons?!!?? This dude claims the piston comes prebuilt with the rings /wristpin/and con rod.... and list is 213.72!!! jesus there MUST be a way to get just pistons!

One more thing... the st220 valve springs.. they are quite inexpensive but they list as 12 not 24. I take that to mean they are for intake or exhuast only.... am I correct?

Get a new parts guy!!!

The ST220 springs are not intake/exhaust specific ... you need 24 of them ;)

Pistons/rings/rods are all available seperately. Browse Bill Jenkins' parts system and you will see http://www.signaturelm.com/frameset1.asp?LINK=Parts&MAIN=parts_wildcard1

okay... i looked and the part it shows is the same as the part I have on my list which plainly says it coms with with the con rod. Now bills site doesnt say it comes with the rod but my list here says it comes with the rod and the list prices are identicle so I cant imagine its wrong. Either way... does it strike anyone as strange that the piston could posibly cost THAT much? Jesus for what ford asks I can call wiesco and get brand new one off's made up.... There is NO way I should pay more then 600 for a set of OE pistons..... thats 1200 worth of pistons rings and pins.... i mean the shortblock is what 1300? GRRRRRRRRR.... WTF did people do before the internet....

5L8Z is the same upgraded pan as the 3M4Z but it now has an integral gasket.

Well that and the price went up a ton! The 3M4Z kit was under $75. The 5L8Z kit is $125.

I find it almost humorous because the original kit had a much more expensive gasket style. (thick aluminum shim with rubber inlays)

It came out for the 04 Escape model year. Part number is on my site too btw...

Sealed Power sells a full hypereutectic, coated skirt piston set for $150.

The ST220 VS are under $3 each.

neet. Demon, assuming I want to go with medium turbo boost say 10psi. Do you feel those pistons would be a good choice? I realize forged pistons are of course more durable but ive heard hypereutectic is actually a good choice because of the heat properties and the lack of extra clearence forged slugs demand. The way i look at it no piston can withstand sustained detonation so why blow extra money on pistons when i can spend the extra on a good tune and a better intercooler.

I searched quick for the sealed power site.... didnt find anything yet , if you have a link? Oh... I got the pump controller from kinger. Do you by chance have the ##'s for that blower motor ? :)

...add...

These SP pistons are the same design as the revised Ford 3L pistons. Revised ring land, high quality hypereutectic, & coated skirt.
I would expect them to safely hold 350FWHP on a GOOD tune.

Maybe more??? Find out...

What do you think stock pistons are??? Forged?

Cast Hypereutectic aluminum alloy.

Maybe I am missing the question???

The information I am posting is old news. These pistons have been used on several builds.

Tom may even still have a set. PM him for a deal maybe???

No... but there is a specific section that says hypereutectic and they wernt there... Either way it hit me that when the part number starts with a H they are. So no really no question :) Ive never heard of anyone using them... ive been out of touch for a while though. Thanks for the info.
