Would anyone in the area be interested in helping me with my 3.0L project? I will need someone to help me dissassemble and remove my 2.5L. Also someone who can help assemble/set timing and install the 3.0L. I will pay if neccesary and I live in Clarkston, MI 48348 (about 1 hr north of Detroit). Hoping to do this in the next month or two, maybe have it done in two weekends time?

Thanks,
Nick

I'm not the best wrench-turner on here, that's for sure, but I'm down to stop over and help out where I can... Just gonna need someone with a bit more mech. experience there, too...

Yeah, but Puck also works all the time, and has a baby at home. I think you'd be hard pressed to drag him away from his limited freetime. ;)

Wow! thanks alot guys. I'm glad to know there are people out there that would be willing to help me. I want to do this soooo bad, but I am just scared to do it myself. I'm usually pretty fearless with a wrench, but there's a difference between fearless and stupid. So I know when I'm in over my head. Anyway, when I get this going, probably next few weeks, I'll let you guys know.

Thanks again,
Nick

Hey tell ya what, if you are atleast 21 I work at OVERTYME grill and tap room on the weekends I am a bouncer my name is Jason come on up and I will buy you a beer and we can chat about your car. I start at 9, but remember you gotta be 21. If you aren't I will still give you a hand though.

if you do it on a weekend when I am in town (auburn Hills) I would be happy to stop by but never done a 3.0 swap so I will be useless on the knowledge end but on the helping with stuff not crucial I can do that... You doing this in a heated garage? Yeah I know pussy whatever but [censored] I have done engine swaps and rebuilds in the dead of winter and swore I woudl never do it again. Once you have a wrench slip and yoru frozen ass hand punches the block you will understand why...

Yeah my time is fairly limited.

Although i have been working local for the past while, and it should stay like that from here on out, save a small 2-3 day trip every month or so....

with that being said, come spring time, i'll be more involved, but it won't be to the level i was before the big job and baby.... so expect me to help out here and there, and of course i can help over the phone if you are clueless about something..... 519-551-1001 is my number should you have a question.....

Great...... more likely than not I'll attempt to pull it this weekend, so if you can help that'd be great! And everyone else is welcome to come over too. I'll post on here, this week, when exactly I'm doing it. By the way I have a 1 ton chain driven winch attached to the I-beam in my garage, so I don't think I'll need the cherry picker. Do you guys think I'll need anything else?

A torch and a big hammer always helps. If there is any essential tools needed I should have them at my dads house where I store my tool box.
Just give me a call and we will hook up a time. I am an early bird so don't worryt about waking me up.

Let's do it man! I'm totally in, this couldn't have come at a better time! I'll find out when I'd have to order them to get them by Mar. 4th (3.0L day!) When I find out, we can order. Maybe as early as this coming week!

I got me a set of the 3.0L headers from em, too. I'm a little worried, so I have to talk to Buckshot again, because when I showed up at SpringZing (Contour's version of CF) Rick was under his car talking about how his headers just split wide open, and forced him to park the s/c'd 3L the rest of the time. I'd hate to see any of ours do that. I will find out which headers he had at the time, and what the actual problem was.

Other than that, I'm there next weekend man. =)

you are droppping that much on headers and are gunna buy a MONZA not a truebendz?

jrak123

Yeah I like the look of the monza it is a dual exit with 2.5" tubing, I think that should be good'nuff, why? you know something about the monza system that I don't?

Jorgen
02-18-2005, 04:44 PM
always seems like a hit or miss system and kinda cheaply built in most cases. some people talk bad about theirs some people love theirs... Guess it is basicly an item of thought if it is worth the extra money for a TB or something like that, But I have to say i love my TB wouldn't trade it for anythign...

Why did you buy 3.0L headers? What's the difference of the 3.0L set vs. 2.5L set, besides the obvious EGR location? Anyway, glad to hear that you'll make it out next weekend. I should have most of the parts by then and you can assist me in installing them, you'll probably know a few things I don't too. I'll probably do the port matching too, next weekend!

Later,
Nick

EternalOne

Why did you buy 3.0L headers?

For starters the engine only had gutted-precats on it when purchased from Jesse (Kinger), and Buckshot recommended we go with the 3L headers like he has on his s/c'd 3L. (The two setups are almost identical, one Cougar, one Contour, tho.)

you'll probably know a few things I don't too

Don't count on it. ;) But if I don't know something, I have the phone numbers of the people who do. =)

E1

But why did he recommend the 3.0L headers are they different than the 2.5L, like in size or something? Does the 3.0L have larger exhaust ports?

Thanks,
Nick

EternalOne
02-19-2005, 02:25 PM
Ah, heh, missed that part... ;) Yeah, from what I remember (and I could be wrong here) the 2.5L MSDS headers won't work on the 3.0L, and Buckshot actually had to get a custom set from them. (Which is where the 3.0L headers came from.)

I have a 2.5" Trubendz exhaust w/ Weapon-R muffler that I'll be selling shortly, myself. I'm going with a custom built 3" exhaust w/ duals. (I bought the Trubendz exhaust before I got the 3.0.)

Nice man. Did you think of sending your tranny off to Terry instead of doing all of that yourself? He's got some upgrades for the MTX75 that only he provides, and with as much as your doing with the tranny, it might be nice to have the guy who helped build it looking it over... ;) Plus, he gets MUCH better deals on the tranny parts than you'll be able to get, which will help offset the labor costs. Just a suggestion, if you've got the cash for it, as you can get VERY carried away with all of the options he has available now. =)

Finally! I'm finishing the car this week. I have all the parts except my MSDS headers, getting them tomorrow, but I'm finishing the polishing on the heads tonight and I've already done everything else:

- replaced rod bearings with Clevite tri-metals
- cleaned block
- cut knotch off block and head
- ported 3.0L heads
- replaced oil pressure sensor with 2.5L sensor
- cleaned all parts: timing cover, valve covers, timing components, accesories, etc.
- powdercoated valve covers (gloss black)
- optimized LIM
- powdercoated MAF and intake piping (MAF- almost chrome & piping- gloss black)
- got trans back from Terry Haines (updated forks & tower, Quaife LSD, cleaned, lubed and painted)
- ADC custom tuned chip
- MSDS headers & y-pipe (Xtreme coating)
- SVT radiator
- SVT oil cooler

That's it, will be done and on the road Saturday! First 100mi break-in: oil & filter change, then 300mi break-in: oil, filter & trans fluid change, Then new Royal Purple oil, Mobile 1 filter and Royal Purple Syncromax Trans fluid. (break-in with conventional 5W-30 motor oil and Royal Purple Syncromax trans fluid)

Can't wait to open her up in 500 miles!

Drove the car and it's awsome, although a little clutch chatter and diff chatter, but the car has way more thrust all the time. Haven't brought it over 4000 rpm yet and won't until I hit 500 mile on it.

I love the Roush styling. I'd go with that for sure, it follow the line of our car the best.
