click-click (http://www.supermotors.org/resources/articles/sts-a1-1.php).. This might even work on the Cougar.

intersting, this is actually the second time that ive seen a turbo mounted at the rear of the vehicle, i didnt read it too closely but was there any thing on price?
edit: i was just linked to the companys site, nothing made for the cougar, but thats not to say that it cant be made, average price there was like 3-4k

hmm...wonder if that is really true about the lag time on that site?..."To our surprise, a molecule of air can travel from the turbo to the intake inlet in .05 seconds, which provides boost almost instantaneously. "All the intake tubing adds up to less than half a cubic foot of space," says Rick Squires, owner of STS Turbo Systems. " Might just have to try it....could be cheaper for me...since I wouldn't have to buy anymore headers. I already have a set of msds headers.

wait a minute, where is that air filter mounted? under the car? Won't dirt, dust, rain, snow.etc.. get in there?

yeah the filter location blows. But a simple intake sheild like what I sell for $20 would be an excellent solution.

That and a foam pre-filter.
Between those two I would not worry about it.

wow.. that's amazing and completely awesome
you'd def. have to do something more to the air intake, else your car would only be a nice sunny dry day driver

In a sport compact, I've gotta call BS when they claim no turbo lag. I'll believe it when somebody sucessfully implements it on an Eclipse.

why cant you believe it on a sport compact??

Why would go through the trouble on an Eclipse? Hello they already sell turbo manifolds for both the 4g63 and the 420a...maybe you mean a v6 eclipse?

If its such a great way to mount the turbo why dont race cars have em there? :) Seems like a way to half a$$ a turbo install. Ill bet $50 that you loose quite a bit of power 0-2500.... in fact i bet its more then 25%.
Woah... just actually read the whole article.... methanol injector??? Hrmm.... Oh and look at the dynos I was right about the tremendous power loss down low. Basically the car becomes a pile of garbage in normal driving.
I dont care what any of you say.... drivability sucks when you have nearly 2/3 the power 0-2500rpm. Yeh you can tell me how you run around town at 5 grand all the time and good for you... but you still stop for red lights dont ya? Id LOVE to drive that car before and after to see how much the streetable performance is GONE.

With the turbo so far back, don't you get a lot of turbo lag?
No, our turbochargers are sized to operate at this remote location. Just like any turbocharger, once the turbo is up to temperature and in the rpm range for which it was designed to operate. The boost comes on hard and fast. All of our systems will produce full boost below 3000 rpm. All of our systems will produce full boost below 3000 rpm.

raise your hand if you launch your car from idle off the line even from a stop light.

Considering the dyno graphs are those of motors with stock internals. I don't see how you can determine that there is a drivability lose until 2500. The motor would essentially keep the same torque and hp down there until boost kicked in. How is that affecting drivability.
Until you go internal and start messing with o say compression that drivability becomes an issue.
I have to say one thing though. My 96' GSX with a 9:1 comp ratio gets full torque by 3 grand and has great around town drivability.
Just because "race" cars put them there doesn't mean that it has to be written in stone. "Race' cars have a lot of strict guidlines to follow and while I haven't picked up a rule book I would imagine there has to be a rule somewhere about protection from flying parts should something blow at 200.
but I could be talking out of my ass

Very cool idea, and if you look closely under the rear of the Cougar, we have a crapload of empty space between the frame and the bumper. Perfect location for an air intake when you live in Michigan and get nonstop rain/snow/salt. Might want to also put the turbo there, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with one running under my rear axle. They must live in a warmer climate.

I e-mailed sts and this is what they said,
Gregg,
Thank you for your interest in a turbo system from STS. Unfortunately we don't have a bolt-on kit for your vehicle at this time.
We get literally hundreds of requests for new vehicles each week and we will be announcing new kits soon.
I'll put you in our database and we'll contact you when we have a kit for your vehicle.
We do sell a universal turbo system through our authorized dealers that can be modified to fit many vehicles. It will cost more than one of our normal systems due to the custom fabrication and tuning that would need to take place. If you are interested in pursuing this option, please get back to me and I'll set you up with a dealer in your area.
Thanks,
Jonathan
