well since i have changed out my thermostat and ECT sensor i noticed a line running off the block to covered it a ton of sludge and buildup. I have searched for it and i think it is my PCV valve. When i go to a parts store to buy a new one does it come with all the hoses? or just the actual valve which i think is the black plastic piece with a 90* bend? Im looking to replace all of it because it looks horrid.

To make sure is it the thing circled in red. and one end it connects to the engine, while the other end connects to a center area where 3-4 other hoses meet?

The PVC Valve is the piece in your picture with the white text on it. Typically when you buy a replacement you just get the valve and it just slides into the lower hose.

I would recommend buying the actual Ford Motorcraft part rather than the generic. They tend to cost about the same but my personal experience with my Mustang was that the generics kept falling out while the Motorcraft didn’t.

its basically just for pollution. You will fail inspection if the valve is not working properly.

And think...that sludge stuff was about to be recirculated into your intake manifold and then build up nicely in there and on the secondary butterflies on your LIM.

I'm going to replace the PCV valve soon, because I was looking at it and the bottom piece inside it was black..should be silver. Anyone know if the valve affects the gas mileage in any way? It's my last hope because I already replaced my plugs/wires/fuel filter, and DPFE sensor, and I'm still getting 18mpg.

Mine looked the same way all crudded up, I just cleaned it on the outside but it's starting to build up again. I guess i'll replace my pcv valve soon too. I have 110,000 miles and I get an average of 23mpg everytime I reset it the dash guage, so i dont think it being dirty effects MPG too much.

when i took the old pcv valve out, the stock motorcraft one in there was black plastic, the new one i got at autozone was a shiney metal and the brand name was deutch or something. but i cleaned the outside of the piping really well and i stuck Q-TIPs as far is i could inside the actual tube to get out all the oil/crud i could
