I am getting my car repainted within the next month or so . . . i am thinking black, but i have to leave the car outside . . . i live in southern california so it is mostly sunny . . . should i be worried of the paint fading? is there anyway to take care of a black car that lives outside? . . . haha or should i just paint it silver

I'm not sure about the fading part, but if things like that bother you, you might want to take into consideration that EVERYTHING shows up on black. Every little scratch or knick that road wear will give you will show up. I noticed you have tint and tinted taillights; I have a frost and from my opinion the tint look looks 100 times cooler on silver than black :) Plus, any little scratches that may end up on your car will not be visible.

I have a black kitty living outside. I live in northern New Jersey though and right now it is the middle of winter. My kitty's condition just makes me want to cry. She looks horrible right now because of all the salt that is currently all over her. I can't get the hose out either to rinse her down since it is only 4-10 degrees at the high point in the day.
In the summer though, with a good wax, the black with such a nice reflection makes it all worth it, but the little scratches and dings are indeed really noticeable, it is a shame though since black looks so awesome when it is clean.

I wouldnt get black. I have a black cougar and regret buying it. It is so hard to keep clean. It stays clean for maybe 1 day then then theres dust all over it. But I am also in Alaska and we have alot of dirt roads outside the city. I hated living at my dads because the road to his house is a dirt road and there are half a million dollar houses in this neighborhood. You think they would pave the road cause its an expensive house neighborhood.
But like Tagliente said, if you wax it with black wax it looks really nice. My car also lives outside, no garage for me. My paint is pretty much perfect and the sun hasnt seemed to do any damage to it. But I also dont know how black paint does in California.

i've got a black car too. i got it used with sooo many scratches, you have no idea.
when you sell it, look at the car's body well, and if it's at a dealership, ask the salesman to take it to the back to have it buffed. i worked at a dealership, still have friends there, just recently went to "cut" my car, and it brought all the black out, no more fading, and alot of scratches and swirls off. also, might ask them to also use "paint sealant", or u might buy it for yourself.
black color will show every scratch and will get dirty easily, but once you have it well protected and washed often, it's the best looking of all colors. trust me, my g/f has silver, i used to wash it, buff it, wax it, so many times, and i still prefer black. plus, with tinted windows, it looks wicked.

hey thanks for all the responses . . . haha I'm kinda worried now . . . yeah I know it looks b!tch'n when it is clean, but it would be pretty hard to keep it clean where i live . . . and with how much i drive . . . i think i am leaning more towards silver or a metallic gray

mine is black too . . . it may be hard to keep clean, but when it is clean it looks awesome! I'd say if you keep it waxed you'll do fine.

Exactly. Looking into a clean black car is like looking into a tinted mirror. A lot of work, but I think it's worth it in the end.

Just be careful if you wax it in the sun or else youll get some waxy swirls on your black paint job and it wont look good at all. but if you give it a good wax it shines like the sun. I live on Long Island and the sun could get pretty strong here and just from washing my car with the soap and stuff, its basically like wash a section and quickly rinse off or else you get some ugly soap dots. But hey Iv seen your car on the forum before, and I really like the color you have and the way its all put together! Id keep it but its all up to you..goodluck on your choice.

I think with proper maintenance, black is the sickest looking color around. I've already chosen black (with silver racing stripes) for my Mustang. Keep it clean, buff it, wax it regulerly, and it will be sweet. Especially with black tint. All black is just sick looking.
The only thing I would worry about is heat. You live in SoCal, so it gets pretty warm in the summer. But if you have good tint, it shoiuldnt be as bad. Just dont go lay on the hood in July, unless you want a good tan.

Get a car cover, avoid the paint fade problems. Get a good UV resistant mix in your clearcoat as well.

hey i have a black cougar and i live in western NY. Winters here are rough and everything is noticable and that's why i'm taking it off the road in the winter next year. BUT in the summer it looks amazing and i would highly recomend getting it painted black! Black with those dark window tints would look sweet
