cougar vs Zx2

first off. Run a search for the Bosch +4 Platinum plugs. NOT the right plug to use on our cars!!

And yes you should be able to beat one, assuming its MTX and he isnt Mario Andretti.

My I4 MTX cougar walks all over ZX2s. I only have a catback and an intake and a new performance clutch. I've walked all over stock and modded ZX2s. ZX2s and I4 cougars both have the I4 Zetec 2.0 liter. So i think you can win but you have an ATX right?

in 98 the escort zx2 mtx runs a 7.4 0-60 and a 15.7 1/4. You have a atx, you will lose, unless the driver just really sucks.

if you have a v6 and know how to drive it right, when you get to about 3rd gear you will pull away from the zx2. i raced one and it had an intake and exhaust and it did not stand a chance it was my friends and i know what he has because i helped him with it. this was before i got the headers and exhaust. just had an intake. you should be fine go give that zx2 a spanking that they will never forget.

nah, he should win, i ran a 98 zx2 w/ about equal mods, plus an intake on the zx2, and won, and my cougs slow

Hes got a ATX V6 with a higher stall torque converter with his best run being a 16.5 or 16.4, if i remember from the Drag Racing section correctly.

Edit: According to his post in the drag strip section, his best run was 16.3, without the torque converter installed.

Well, it all depends. One member said they run 15.7's stock. That is also the average of numerous runs by a professional driver. (If you got that time from a website and not a person) A stock cougar MTX should run a 15.9 but not everybody is the best driver. Also wear and tear on a car can bring that quarter mile time up. The older a car gets, the slower it CAN get. Some kid around my area has a zx2 mtx and ran a 16.9. I smoked him 3 times in a row and I had the Pacesetter exhaust which some believe is a 5 hp loss.

Can't hurt to try, just do it other late at night when nobody is on the road, or take it to somewhere were there are no pedestrians or cars. Street racing is dangerous and in some cases, totally not worth the risk.

Yeah i think i should win i have beaten GS eclipes, 5 speed neons with the 2.0. I have to wait till spring b4 i can do it. Its when im taking leave b4 i go to Iraq and then my car is getting the tranny swap. I think i will win it is not all that fast i driven b4 and i think i will kill it of the line and he will have to play catch up because from a stop sign and im behind it and we both floor it i catch up really fast like b4 we hit 25mph. So give me luck and ill let u know

When i had my Cougar i raced a guy from work a few times with a ZX2 and i beat him every time. Both of us automatic and stock.

an automatic cougar will NOT beat a manual zx2. While a zx2 is not a speed demon, its zippy for what it has.... Wheras a ATX cougar is a dog. A lazy Saint Bernard even.

However, we've raced several times, and weight makes a big diff. Just driver, i pull pretty good on him; where as i have a passenger, i can't pull on him; now to say HE has a passenger, i win even more so. It's seriously that close.
