View Full Version : Anyone research the 05 stangs?
This isnt really coug related but has anyone looked into pricing and such on the new mustangs? From what Ive seen online in dealer inventory there are a decent amount of V6 mustangs out there but I only found 2 dealers with the Mustang GT; Mike Bass Ford (they only had Autos) and Mullinax in Amherst (they had 2 GT's with the 5spd). Looks like stickers around 26,000 depending in package. I was just wondering if anyone has gotten a look at the A-plan or invoice on any V8 5spd mustangs (2005...duh). Think Im gonna go drive one soon since Ive now got nearly 120,000 miles on the cougar. Maybe a late spring purchase depending on how my side-jobs go. Gettin my big raise to "top rate" in a couple weeks at UPS so that should help. Still just feelin out the situation though- I dont really feel confident in a first year, all-new vehicle.

I don't really like the new mustangs. Regardless of the hype they seem to get because that's a great price for a car with 300 hp, i still think they're ugly. Now more people will probly agree with you rather than me, but I would rather put 26k into my cougar. Plus mustangs are not uncommon, and just like the "new" mustangs became old, so will the 05's. And also by the end of the year you will probly see more and more of them and it will be less unique. A Subaru WRX Sti has a turbo 2.5L 4 cylinder engine which also has 300hp. It's a little more expensive though at around 28 or 29. And it's already a turbo'd engine. Just think carefuly before spendin that kind of green.

i just watched this show on Speed that rated the '05 mustang on their top 10. the onyl ad theing they had to say, was that the braking is a little weak. but everything else they were very positive about.

Yeah, I've seen tests where they run it head to head with the top-of-the-line '04 GT, and the '05 walks all o v e r it. It's THAT good.
Propain - keep in mind, the Ford discount plan does not extend to Subaru. Slade's lookin' for another Ford.
What about a Mazda, Slade? I have two friends, one of whom just bought a brand new RX-8, and the other just bought a brand new Mazda 6s. Both pretty effin' sweet.
Aw, what am I saying?!? I'd take a Mustang over anything in the Ford stable right now.

If I was looking for a front drive sporty "drive it safely in the Ohio winter but have fun in the summer" I'd be all over a Mazda 6. Or maybe a Nissan Altima w/ the 3.5 liter. But the Mazda 6 looks sweeter.
But d@mn, that 2005 Mustang rawks! It's Hawt! :) I'd wait a year to work the kinks out and see what Saleen and Roush do with it, 'cause there will be aftermarket for the modular V8, and there will be kits styled along the lines of Saleen and Roush. And after a year or two there should be some sort SVT version, or whatever they happen to call it (can't call it a Cobra if you've got Shelby back in the company fold and are showing Shelby concept cars).
I looked at a new GT in the parking lot of Quaker Steak-n-Lube a week or so ago, and it has a sweet interior too. Kinda reminds me of the Cougar 'cause it had color keyed leather seats like the XR and the round air vents.
A 300 HP rear wheel drive car with the looks of an inspired classic is the only thing that would make Laser Red a daily driver in the salty sandy slushy Ohio winter!
The new Mustang is coming up in Consumer Reports in a month or two, I'll let you know what they say. They'll be the voice of reason on how well it handles daily driving and what it's like in the fit and finish department.
And remember, there is no replacement for displacement! That V8 may be comparable to the turbo cars in peak numbers, but it's torquey down low, it runs lower RPMs so theoretically it will last longer, with no turbo there's no turbo lag, and it sound eff-in' sweet. I'd rather hear that low rumble at idle over the hiss of a BOV any day. Plus the Steve McQueen commercial is bad @ss ;)

Another thought, I'm sure you could score an 04 for a heck of a bargain right now?

Honestly, I think the Mustang is a phase - just like everything else. He sat in one this weekend and he's definitely in love, but give him a month or so and he'll be over it. If the car is in the $24K - $26K range, then add A-plan and that's the price range he'd like to stay in. I'd have to agree with the fact that they'll be less unique in a year or so. I'd rather have a 6 or an original Fastback over an '05 Mustang.
Still cant get details I need cuz the dealers dont have what I want- I did sit in an auto V6 and love the interior and seat to steering wheel to windshield layout. I find myself comfortable in few cars and this is the second (cougar is like a fine suit to my body) Dad just picked up a new truck today- what started as me looking for a mustang booklet turned out to him in a new F150 2 days later...and the new trucks are really nice even in the basic model. Anyway, when I look at numbers and aftermarket and styling all together I personally cant beat a mustang. My next choice is prolly a Z, and I highly doubt I can get a new one (with less power than the GT) for under 25G's. Looks like the premium pkg Mustang GT is runnin like $26,600 ish sticker so I am thinking maybe 23-24K on A-plan.
Oh, and about the 04' mustangs; they had a brand new V6 convertible in the show room that was stickered at $27,800 and change with a sale tag on it for $19,995. 8 G's off on a brand new mustang is a pretty good deal if you want a drop top V6 model.
