Transmission ID's

Alright, I've been doing TONS of homework for transmission upgrades for the MTX-75. I have some transmissions lined up to be purchased, but I want to know some things not cleared up.

I realize the transmissions are interchangable from (build date 8/3/98) 99-02 Cougars and the 99-00 SVT Contours, but I've came across some ID numbers. Is that all they are, ID's, no change in the mechanics? Here are the ID's:

ID YS7R-FB
ID 1S8R-DA
ID 1S8R-DB
ID 1S8R-DC

All 4 ID's are listed under the 2001 Cougars and the last 2 ID's are listed under the 2002 Cougars.

The order that you listed them in are the order in which they where released from Ford with internal changes to things like the shift forks, bearings, gears (same gearing, different strength metal), and synchronizers. The last one on your list would be the latest version from Ford.

OK that sounds good, I guess I'll finally purchase this BI0TCH.

I found a 01 tranny with 17K miles for $600 Shipped, ID 1S8R-DA.

I plan on throwing around $1500 in upgrades (not including price of tranny and labor) then putting it in the Cougar. Should be a really extreme setup.
