View Full Version : This fool in a Honda 2000 . . .

So, a few houses down from me sits a canary yellow Honda S2000. I went to high school with the owner's son, and . . . yeah. Lets just say I'm not real fond of the whole family. The owner works for a stealership, so I'm sure this is just his demo, but he lets the kiddies drive the car.

Today I was on my way out of town when I noticed the S2000 with his nose buried in my ass. I prayed for light traffic, and was divinely rewarded. As we reached highway speed, I quickly pulled out and overtook the slow car in front of me. The S2000 follwed, but instead of dropping back in line behind me, tried to pass me. Throttle buried, he couldn't even pull on me as we quickly raced towards 90.

I hit the brakes and turned on to a much more desolate stretch of road that also happens to take me to where I need to go each day, and it was on. He pulled a little on me through third gear, enough to justify pulling in to the other lane to try to pass me. Fourth came and no change, and then I slowly started to creep ahead as we hit 135+. The kid finally dropped in behind me and backed way off as we slowed down to "just" 90 MPH. Knowing he wouldn't give up so easily, I kept watching for him to run me again, but he didn't . . . until I stopped watching. He got a huge rolling jump on me this time, I got on the gas again and we ran the rest of the long, open road, with me eventually slowly starting to reel him in.

I think the best part about the story was this - after our run, we both turned off on to another two-lane highway that lead through a small town. I followed him through the town, and after leaving the town, the road opens up to four lanes. The S2000 and I were stuck behind a large, slow moving Suburban. When the road opened up to two lanes, with a red light conveniently waiting two high-performance vehicles to drag off the line. But he wouldn't take the bait . . . he pulled alongside the Suburban, but didn't pass it so we could have a clean run. I pulled by him after the light changed, we flashed thumbs up to each other, and both went our seperate ways. Somehow I don't think this is the last time we'll be running though . . . hopefully next time I'll have the car tuned.

Its sad how someone would pay that much $$$ for a Honda & they still think they could win with a bone stock car . When do they ever learn . Way to represent man. Nice Kill

Good times...

Eventhough I do give honda credit for being able to pull a large amount of power out of an NA small displacement car... I'd pick a truck that runs 19's over that car anyday, just cause that car produces no torque. I just fine the fun factor in that car only occurs at WOT at high speeds, and to me I don't do that very often...

Good run either way... most people with S2K's don't launch or shift properly, so they are much easier to beat off the line. with a poor launch in that car it takes like a week to get the car to move.

I'm interested in seeing what your car puts to the wheels.
Get it tuned and get to the track before you hurt yourself doing 135+ on open streets

hell yeah man. Thats not bad at all. Those S2000s have at least 200whp out of the box and they are lighter to boot.

I'm sorry, we're an ass-backwards country that likes to use a complicated, inconsistant system of measurements. We have no use for your "metric system"

Nice run. Did he have the top up or down? I just ask because aerodynamic drag is a big factor at triple-digit speeds. Not to mention that loose objects in the car have a tendency to self eject, as I've learned the hard way. :)

How many other cars have you had close ones with? Any 350Zs or Boxters yet? A came across a base level Boxter a couple days ago, we had a pretty even run to 80mph.

Sad and true. I typically don't do hard launches from a stop, but there are plenty of times I'll be cruising, and feel the need to accelerate while being too lazy to downshift. 3k to 6k RPM will take forever. Don't get me wrong, it has plenty of low-end for 'regular' driving, but if you really want to scoot, you have to pay attention.

I have had 2 races with S2000s...a stock and modifed. The stock one was dead even with me. The modifed had a motor swap and he pulled on me 2 cars.

of course this was from a roll. I havent raced one from a stop. Pretty nice cars though thats for sure.

Nope, thats the first car with the balls to run against me thats been worth my gas and time. I live in the midwest, so people like pickup trucks and gas guzzling SUV's over cars.

He had the top up, though it would have been quite hilarious had he been dumb enough to go with the top down. When he ricer fly-byed me, I definitely would have been backing waaaaaaaay off

I have a coworker with a base level Boxster that said to me "Wanna race?" I was going to ask him to race for pinks. IIRC, a Boxster is in the 14.4-14.5 1/4 range. I think I can take the fool. ;)

is some bald guy whos all jacked gonna come and be the starter instead of a hot chick? and is there going to be really dumb music when one of you loses and takes the other's keys? cause that would be kinda cool...

ha thats a way to make people not want to race you...when they ask just say "for pinks?" and watch the dumb expression on their faces
