Okay, I've seen at least four different short-thows available; B&M, Steeda/Ford Racing, CC, and the cheap ones on eBay. I'm assuming with the cheap ones on eBay, you pretty much get what you pay for. I know that B&M is THE name in this particular game, but I've been planning on going with the Steeda/Ford Racing, being that it's endorsed by the OEM manufacturer (Ford). Any other thoughts, suggestions, etc.?

Steeda is good, but you have to do a slight modification to a bracket to fit.....I ahve the B$m right now and its works great for me...iv had it for 2 years, but im slightly dissapointed becasue its not a true short shifter...but it works for what it is.

avoid ebay shifter unless you know how to weld and can reinforce cable attachment points, yes they are mostly B&M knock offs ...

B&M bolts right in but us pricey

Steeda is a true short shifter, it is longer below the pivot point and you need a 10 mm raiser plate to make it clear the floor

also the B&M is a lot shorter then the Steeda, the Steeda is about an inch or so shorter then stock and the B&M has to be 2 to 3 inches shorter

ive had the B&M for a long time with no complaints at all......i def think its worth the money. there was a noticeable difference between stock.

Rozwell-- is your B&M the same as for the Cougar? Everyone else seems to think that the B&M is the one to have... and what kind of modification has to be made to the Steeda to make it work in the Cougar???

Why do you think it is not a "true" short throw???

The B&M changes the angle & length below the fulcrum point and therefore is considered a true short throw.

The Steeda has a slightly greater angle & length change and thus requires the adapter plate to give it the room to actually work without hitting things.

I love my B&M and I paid under $100 for it many years ago.

If I were buying one today I would look at the Steeda since it's cheaper then the B&M (is now) and the adapter plate is a piece of cake to make.

You do need to remember that the more length below the fulcrum point the more likely you are to stretch and/or break the shifter cables.
That is the only drawback of the Steeda over the B&M and either over a stock shifter.

Demon im sorry, i should have explained myself even more....the B&M does what it needs to do and i am happy with it, the shifters im use too shorten the throw at the cables, so you keep the same hight shifter but, the throw is actually shorter....example...my friends GTi keept the same hight shifter but only need to move the shifter 1/4 - 1/2 an inch to shift.

Ok... from my readings here, the B&M one is the Mac Daddy if you got the $$. Steeda is not bad if your willing to get creative to get it installed. And the Ebay ones are generally crap you shouldn't waste your $ on since it has a reputation of breaking. What about the Custom Cougars one? Of course its a knock off of the B&M, but I've heard that it has better welds than the ebay ones. Any comments on those?
