Had the last INR Solo II of the year yesterday and I placed 5 out of 11 novices, about right considering I was racing against a Porsche 912 and a Cararea(sp), a Roush Escort zx2 and scubies. My fast time was 47.402, down from my first run of 49.214. The fast time came from the Porsche 912 at 42.something(912 was a 2 driver car) I was able to complete the entire track in 1st gear. There were 3 spots where the rev limiter kicked in, but thats were there turns so it was ok. The roush springs definately helped but the driver rear strut that is shot killed me in the skid pad, turning to the right. Power slid into some cones going into the last turn on my last fun run, cold weather with slick pavement= lots of spins. I let out air through out the day to try and get more grip but I kept spinning the tires coming out of the skid pad and the short "S" turn with BF Goodrich Comp TA's. I have videos as well but they are over 10meg and I dont know how to compress them so if anyone can help me with that ill stick those up too.

Yeah, with the cold weather yesterday, we had a very slick course in Detroit also. Next time you may want to actually try increasing air pressure to get more grip. You're searching for an optimal tire pressure that's not to high or too low. If it's too low, the sidewalls deflect too much and you lose grip, but if it's too high the pressure can round the profile and you lose grip. It takes a bit of experimenting to figure out where you need to be for a given tire size, brand, etc.
FYI - If the mods listed in your signature are correct, you shouldn't be running in STS. The SVT UIM/TB would bump you to DSP, and the carbon fiber hood would bump you to SM. As long as you're a novice, no one will probably care, but they will once you start beating them.

I started out at 52lbs in the tires but was just spinning the tires and only made it down to 42lbs. it did roll the tires some but Im only going to run the tires throught the winter so its not a big deal. I told them the last time I ran that i was in at least DSP but they told me to run STS because there wast a lot in that class. What class would headers bump me up to?

OK, I assumed you started at a lower pressure...
As for the class, it seems strange they would want you to run elsewhere... I just wanted to make sure at least you knew where you were supposed to be. Headers are legal for STS.

I refuse to run an event where you never have to get out of 1st gear. Our events there are times you have to get into 3rd gear and hold it there.

the 2 locations that we run at are both high school parking lots so there isnt enough room to run that fast, I pegged the rev limiter at 45mph in 3 different spots. It probably could have been run in second but a short "S" turn was too sharp for 2nd gear

Huh - here at ATL, the course I went to was all 2nd gear - which I like - 1st would be to slow and 3rd seems like some of the speeds would be pretty high. Besides - I think 2nd has the best range, IMO, for the Cougar.
That's funny that DSP had more people than STS at yours - it was the exact opposite down here - STS is packed.
