I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar (Automatic). Came back home from work today and everything was fine. I parked my car in driveway and went inside. About 45 minutes later I was leaving to go to the gym and after putting my car to into "R" I felt that it doesn't have that much power to it. Then I shifted into "D" and noticed the same thing. For a second it would go normaly and then it would start acting like its in "N". I drove about 100 yards and parked around the apartment building. Went back to the place where the car was parked initialy, and found a trail of brown looking fluid (obviously leaked out while I was inside). It came from the drivers side of the car. I din't hit any bumps on the way home or nothing of that sort, and it drove me just fine all the way home from work (about 15 min drive).
Please tell me I won't need a new transmission. Is there some sort of cap that could have broken off or untwisted on the bottom of the car where the drivers side is and the transmission simply leaked out? What would you advise me to do next? (don't want to tow a car to more than one destination, because the damn towing doesn't come cheap these days)
