okay transmission people, tell me why my buddie's stock 03 Escape tranny feels like its slipping less? I have driven it around town and it feels like it pulls harder, shifts firmer, and overall better connected to the road. So tell me, exactly what are the differences between his and my transmissions?

I have ruled out the obvious fact its 4wd, the shifting is so much firmer and seems quicker. Could it be that just the extra torque and power create this illusion? Are there any differences between the torque converters? What changed to make the escape feel so much more connected to the road (even with the 4WD burnouts we were doing in the snow last winter)

The extra 30 horse and 40lb-ft torque will make it feel better between shifts during hard acceleration. ;)

So mabye the levelten tranny can wait for a little while longer, since the 3 is going in...

It's also possible the PCM is programmed for less slippage, slightly higher line pressure, faster lock up, et cetera.

The ATX is completely computer controlled.

Put the 3L in and then get an ADC chip. The combination of more power and infinitely better slushbox programming will be shocking.

I would also do some of the cheaper slushbox mods like Russell did. (sonnax valves, valve body, etc)
I would add a plate style tranny cooler but that's a must for any CD4E so you should already have that!

Isn't the ATX in the Escape tranny a heavy duty CD4E, instead of just the regular one???
